Scarlet or Scarlett?

DH and I both like the name Scarlet/Scarlett if we have a girl, but are kind of undecided on which spelling we prefer. Which do you ladies like better? Obviously the first is the proper spelling for the color and the other is the spelling used for Scarlett O'Hara, Scarlett Johannson, etc, so I feel like both are "correct" in one sense or another - which is good because we definitely don't want a "creatively spelled" name!

You're right;both are correct. Scarlet is a color and Scarlett is a surname that has its roots in the color name. I've seen Scarlett on here more often than Scarlet, but I wouldn't blink at either really.

I love the name. It was on my girl list too. I prefer it with 2 t's. Scarlett.

I prefer Scarlett, but I would not think it was odd if you spelled in Scarlet. I just think that most people in her life will add the second T automatically and if you only spell it with 1 T she will be correcting people a lot.

My niece's name is Scarlett, I LOVE it, I am a little jealous that my step-sister got to it first :-) Very pretty!

I agree with PP's....It doesn't look strange either way, but I think most people assume the two T's, so Scarlet could be prone to misspellings.

This has been posted before and I was surprised by how many people clearly preferred Scarlett. For aesthetics and familiarity Scarlett is an obvious choice, but, since I dislike pop-culture references (read: Scarlett Johannson) I would used Scarlet, if we used it today.

I've wanted to use Scarlett for years because of Gone with the Wind, but with it's sudden rise in popularity, we're taking it off our list entirely.

To me the Scarlett spelling seems more feminine, and I like that it's the more common spelling so less need to correct people. With Scarlet somehow when I look at it I see the word "scar" more prominently.

My LO is Scarlet and its suddent rise in popularity is killing me.

But then again, we used Aria as a MN not realizing there was a tv show on using them name. ::sigh::
