First Trimester Screening

Hello all!  I have my 12 week check up this Thursday, and we are supposed to discuss the possibility of doing a 1st Trimester Screening.  Has anyone done this?  I know it's a simple blood test and sono, but I haven't talked to anyone who has done this yet.  Any details?

 Also - if you did the sono, were they able to tell you the sex of the baby? ;-)

    I did it.  One, I wanted to know if anything may be wrong to be more prepared.  Second, I just wanted an ultrasound to see my baby!!

    They did guess girl for me, and they were right.  But I don't think they can always tell.

    I thought that babies don't even have their sex until 12 weeks?

    Also, DH and I did it last time and will probably do it this time as well...

    Thank you both for your comments.  My ticker is incorrect...I am 12 weeks, 3 days, so hopefully they will be able to see the baby's privates!

    And you are correct - 12 weeks is usually when they sex is fully determined.

    My understanding was that most OBs don't like to make a gender call until somewhere between 16-20 weeks. Mine wouldn't even venture a guess until I had my anatomy scan at 18wks.

    Mine guessed at 14 weeks, but that was because I was getting them weekly.  She did, however, tell me not to go out and buy anything pink until 17 weeks to be sure.

    ditto to the previous posters, although I thought I saw a penis on that 12 week scan!!! ?They wouldn't say a word until my big ultrasound around 18 weeks...and it is a boy. ?I got the testing done to be prepared and it put me at ease when the results came back ok. ?A first pregnancy is nerve wracking enough if it is. ?On the other hand, if your results come back borderline or positive for genetic disorders, it's not a sure thing and may drive you crazy in the long run.

    Thanks to all for the words of wisdom! I am more concerned with the test vs. actually finding out the sex of the baby.  That would just be a plus!  Well, I'm headed to the OB tomorrow, so I pray all goes well.
