Baby Names

girl name

My mom passed away 9 years ago.  Her name was Patricia Kay.  Dh wants to name our daughter after her (first and middle name).  I love my mom and want to honor her, but I don't really want to use her full name. I always wanted to use Kay as the m.n. because that's my mom's and my mn and is my mil first name.  However, I've been rethinking that.  Today I thought of Kaylin Patricia.  Is it to "made up?"  I looked it up and it can also be spelled Kalyn.  I would be fine with either spelling.

ETA:  I may dd this later because we are keeping the name a secret and I have some irl friends who might see this post.  Thanks for your input!

  • I've seen Kaelyn before. It isn't made up and I like it better than Kay.

  • I don't like Kaylin/Kalyn at all. I would go with your original idea of using Kay (or even Patricia) as the middle name. I'm a big fan of using a first name you and DH just love and a middle name that has family significance. The entire, exact name after someone just seems like overkill to me (this is why I am also not a fan of juniors).

  • I don't care for Kaylin because it does look "made up." I think sticking to Kay as a mn is a nice way to honor your mother though.
  • NMS, but I think it sounds very pretty! I'm sorry for your loss.

  • I think Kaylin is very pretty. I also have a friend who's DD is named Kaylee. I always thought that was pretty too.

I like it spelled like the above. I think Kalyn would always be mispronounced as "Kuhl-lin" or "Kah-lin."

  • Why not just Kay? Kay Patricia? Pretty, classic, simple.

Kaylin, while beautiful, is a made-up name. It doesn't just "sound too made-up" it is, in fact, a modern invention and will be perceived as trendy.

  • I think Kaylin Patricia is a beautiful name!
  • i love kaylee or kaylin or kaelin or kaelyn - it's such a sweet girls name and when she get's older she can always just go by Kay if she wants to...i think it's special.

i am however a fan of using the middle name for someone special and then using the first name you and your DH love!

good luck and i'm sorry for your loss!

I'm not usually a huge fan of the Kayla/Kaylee type names, but there is a song I like titled Cailin (pronounced like Kaylin) by Unwritten Law. Come to think of it, it would actually be a cute song to sing to your little girl if you named her that, you should look up the song, it really makes me like the name a lot :)

  • I think Kay is a great mn for a whole host of first names.

I dislike Kaylin, Kaylee/Kayleigh (ick), etc. - think they do sound made up and for a little girl and will be quite dated because they scream this time period.
