Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

If you've ever sold on Craigslist

How do you know if the emails that you get from supposed buyers are fakes?  What should I look for?  I'm trying to sell a stroller, and I got 2 emails immediately after I listed that simply say "Is this item still available for sale?"  Something about them seems fishy.  I wouldn't answer an ad that way...  What do I need to know??  Thanks!

Re: If you've ever sold on Craigslist

  • That is common. I sold some strollers and exercise equipment on there. Just answer them yes, can I send you any information, would you be interested in meeting to see it and buy it.  Make sure you meet in public or your husband handles it.

  • don't be scared! Answer the emails honestly but just don't do anything without having CASH money in hand. If they're interested, they'll most likely want to see it in person.

I try to have my husband home when we sell things so I'm not there alone and I wouldn't necessarily allow any one in my house.

    hth! good luck:)

  • I sold my car on CL and only answered people who asked specific questions about the car and left THEIR phone number.

I then met people at a Target, not my house. CL creeps me out, but I sold my car in 36 hours! SWEET!

  • It is very common to get emails like that. They are most likely not real. People who are actually interested will take the time to formulate an actual email. Most likely they will include a phone number or something as well.

This for sure! You could even go back and say you will only answer emails with a phone number.

  • I notice when I was selling stuff any email that came with letters in the head line was fake. It's hard to explain but most that are real the respond that came back was just my headline with nothing added to it.
  • I have them write something specific in the subject line like a color or something so when you open the emails you know right away witch ones are spam and which ones are real. (Spamers try to get you to start a business or sell you products you can usually tell if its spammers or scammers right away) if someone is asking if its still available then its probably just someone wanting to know if its available.
  • I always just answer, "yes it is" to emails and wait for them to email me back.  Some signs of scams are: if they included a link and asked you t confirm the item, a long-winded email about how they just moved from your city and must send a money order please give them your info etc, or something other than just "is that item still available?  I'm very interested."

It's scary out there, but you can do it!  Also, don't accept anything but CASH.

  • I sold two strollers recently and I used my cell as the contact. I told people to text me if interested. One person came to my house and I did not let them in. The other person we met at the mall. And of course like pp only take cash.

  • try to avoid people coming to your home. This is a way for them to case the house. Always met in a public place:)
