Has anyone taken their LO to an all-inclusive resort?

My SIL & BIL invited us to go on vacation with them to Riviera Maya, and I am wondering if it is even feasible.  I would need to get a passport for my LO, and I'm pretty sure he would be okay in our laps for a 3 hour plane ride, but I need to figure out the best way to transport his formula and food, and how to get him from the airport to the resort...I guess I need to bring a carseat?  What else do I need to think about?

Or is this just a bad idea?

Re: Has anyone taken their LO to an all-inclusive resort?

  • I haven't yet, but am planning to so I've looked up lots of this info...

You can bring a reasonable amount of pre-made (or the kind that comes ready to use, which I would recommend for travel) formula on the plane with you - you don't have to put in a ziploc or anything and just let the security screeners know you have it. The rest you should pack (just carry enough to get you through 24 hours so if your luggage gets lost you don't have to worry.

I am taking DS to Disney next mo and not bringing the car seat bc even though mine is FAA approved, it is several inches larger than the seat on the plane (I got DS his own seat bc he is a crawler and climber and I think we'll both go nuts if he doesn't have room to move). We will also not be travelling by car at all. If you are bringing LO as a lap child, then the only reason to have the car seat is if you are renting a car...if you are taking a van from the Cancun airport you likely won't be able to use it bc they pack those vans full when heading to drop people at the resorts in RM.

The biggest thing to think about is water...even at the RM resorts that filter I have gotten sick (and once for several months after I returned), so only make LOs formula with bottled water while there, and I would probably not feed any produce you can't peel (which may limit the diet, but that's better than having a kid with Montezuma's Revenge!). On that note, I would also see if the resort has a microwave you can get in the room so you can zap bottles and nipples in a nooker bag.

    Have fun!!!!

  • Be sure to check that the resort is kid friendly.  The all-inclusive I've been to in Riviera Maya was adults only.

  • If you are renting a car, you can also rent the car seat from the car company. I think we paid $8 a day and it was either a Graco or a Cosco. it's no frills but does the job.

  • DH and I took DS to Dominican when he was 4 months old for my cousins wedding.  To be honest, I wouldn't do it again until LO is at least 2.  The sun was far too hot for DS and I found I pretty much spent most of the time in the room.  I don't know about your LO, but mine goes to bed at 6pm and we were room bound and whispering by then.   I guess DH and I just think that for the money we spent, it wasn't worth it.
