CP: I need some help re:balls.

Cake balls, that is.

A friend and I are helping our other friend throw her sister's baby shower (because, yes, I am the NICEST FRIEND EVER). We are going to make cake balls. They don't know the baby's gender, so we can't just take the easy way out and do baby blue ones like last year. So our thought was to make a rainbow of cake balls. Possibly with some white ones as the little clouds on each side of the rainbow. But maybe not. Problem is, buying enough candy melts to make the required # of cake balls in each color might get expensive. So my other thought was to dip them all in white, and then use the colors drizzled on top in a zigzag to make the colors of the rainbow.

If you buy a multi-pack of sprinkles or go to a bulk food store I think the sprinkles can be a cheap option. Here is a pic of a brownie pop that I made at Valentines Day. It's the same principle.

I would stick with one color of the candy melts. You can't really color them very well, so you'd end up buying more candy melts to get more colors. I think buying sprinkles in bulk like Kristy said would be cheaper. You could drizzle in regular icing instead of candy melts, which would color easier but can be messier for transport. Good luck, I want pics of your balls when they're done!

I did read somewhere once that you can color the white choc w/high quality food dye, but it can't have water in it. I suspect that while this would be awesome, it might also be an expensive solution, so I probably shouldn't have posted in the first place.

But you could call a Wilton store or something and see what they say.
