Washing Pumping equipment question

Do you rinse the bottles/breast shields after each use with just water....or do you use water & soap after each use?

If I pump at work, I wasn't sure if I was over-doing it by washing the parts so often or if I only need to give them a good wash at the end of the day.

Thanks!

Re: Washing Pumping equipment question

  • My LC gave me a tip of storing pump parts in a ziploc in the frig in between pump sessions (at home and/or at work). I pump 3x/day at work, store the parts (with an empty bottle) in the frig.  I wash every night with hot soapy water.  I have a spare set so I can take a fully dry set the next day. Saves me lots of time!

  • awesome info!  Thanks...glad I asked!
  • SO glad I just read this!  I pump after our first feeding of the day, and would like to pump in the afternoon, but washing the parts all the time gets so tiresome!

  • It also helps to have a secondary set of pump parts - flange, valves, membranes, etc - so that you aren't using the same set every day.  I soak mine in soapy water (it starts out hot) for about an hour prior to washing, and just alternate sets of equipment.  On days that I'm feeling especially lazy, I'll skip washing one set for a day and wash both before bed the next.
