Since there have been a ton of questions lately I thought it would be nice if everyone who has a routine they like posted in one place. Here's mine:
Cold wash on delicate with no detergent (which means there is no spin at the end so the diapers end up sopping and cause the machine to add plenty of water for the wash cycle).
I then check to make sure all inserts are out (DH sometimes forgets) and turn any stuffable AIO's inside out so they wash completely clean.
Heavy wash on hot with Tide (regular powder to the lowest line in the cup) with an extra rinse and fast spin (to get out as much water as possible so they dry more quickly).
I've been doing this for about 3 months now and my diapers are the cleanest they've been since DS started eating solids!
Re: Let's talk front loader wash routines
Cold Express wash with vinegar in the detergent slot AND in the fabric softener slot (no detergent and turn off the spin cycle to shorten the cycle).
Normal wash (hot) with extra rinse (with not quite to the line of Country Save detergent and more vinegar in the fabric softener slot).
We've been doing this for well over a year and as long as we do wash every 2 days, we haven't needed to do anything extra.
I'm glad you posted this! I will post what I've been doing, but I'll say that I'm going to try to change detergents (from All Free Clear Military to Country Save powder) AND that I'm still working out what is best for us...
Cold wash/rinse with detergent and extra water. I do a high spin to get as much of the yucky water out as possible. (they're always heavy enough to reach the highest water setting on their own, even when they've been spun high)
Hot wash/cold rinse with detergent and extra water. High spin.
Cold wash/rinse WITHOUT detergent and with extra water. High spin.
I had stink issues, so Stephanie from Abby's Lane told me to do this:
Warm rinse cycle (hot if you have it - I don't)
Hot/Cold "Heavy" wash (has an extra rinse) with regular Tide powder detergent - fill just over the 1 line
Dry
It's pretty simple but effective!
I have a Front Loader.
I do a cold wash/no spin on delicate
Then I do a heavy duty wash/extra rinse with a little less then 1/4 cup of Allen's.
I do another Hot/cold was on delicate.
I have an LG frontloader and after playing around with routines we've found this one works great for us..
Cold rinse/spin with 'Water Plus' option, 1/4 cup vinegar in the detergent slot
Hot/Cold wash on Stain Cycle, heaviest soil setting, plus "extra rinse' option. Charlie's Soap powder in the detergent slot
Cold rinse/delicate cycle with 1 tb EFF detergent. Once it has stopped filling, I pour in an ice cream pail of extra cold water.
Hot Wash/Heavy/extra rinse 1tb EFF detergent.
Air dry
I do a cold rinse/spin with an "extra rinse" sometimes, no detergent.
Hot/cold wash with "heavy" soil level, high spin, and extra rinse. I use 1/2 of the green scoop of Charlie's soap so I always make sure to do the extra rinse with the wash cycle since some babies have a reaction to it. Frankie never has, but I'd hate to risk it.
Mine is very similar to Lotte's (go figure, we share a brain).
I put the diapers through a speed wash on tap cold (apparently there's a difference between cold and tap cold to my machine....who knew). I can choose to put it on the heavy cycle so it uses more water and only recently have I stopped the spin.....but I'm not sure if it's making a difference or not in the next wash but it's not hurting so I'll continue.
I then put it on either stain wash or on whites because those are the longest two cycles. If I have loads of time to spare, then it's stain wash (2+ hours) or if I need them a bit quicker then it's whites (1+ hour) both with the extra rinse. I use Tide original powder but I don't even use it to the 1st line...probably more around 3/4 of the way to the first line.
When that cycle is done I had all the inserts & fitteds to DS to put in the dryer (he loves to help) while I pull out all the pockets & covers to put on a drying rack. I'll throw everything in the dryer if I'm feeling lazy or need something relatively quickly though.
Cold rinse and spin with no detergent
Hot wash on "normal" which = medium spin with detergent and oxiclean. Water plus option and extra rinse. Plus I set it on "heavy" soil.
