Trouble TTC

Does anyone else laugh at others' plans for kids?

I was on another board and someone was talking about their long term plan regarding kids, money, etc. I remember being in that place where I thought we could time when we had kids and felt like we had control over how many we'd have. Now it just makes me laugh to hear others talk like that. Part of me is sad, but a bigger part is incredibly jealous. I miss feeling confident.

Anyone else feel something similar?

  • I really wish I could plan things.  I am definitely more jealous than anything.  If things had worked the way they should, we would have a child already and wouldn't have spent most of our savings trying to get there.  Oh well.

  • Oh ya. Some people really annoy me with this. NAIVE! For some sure it only takes once but obviously its not always that easy.

My BFF told me years ago that she wanted 5 kids and the last 2 were gonna be twins. first 3 would be back to back.

  • Yeah, my cousin plans out everything like that. She wanted to have baby #2 just before her sons 3rd bday, and sure enough she will have it a few months before. I wish I could have done it that way. My son is 11, and he still doesn't have any brothers or sisters!
  • I have several friends like that and it is amazing that they have no idea how hard TTC can be.  I have one good friend that had a surprise baby with her first and when she started TTC her second she got pregnant the first cycle.

I was talking to her a little about my IF issues last week and she actually told me to relax.  I was floored!  That was the first time I had ever gotten that comment.

  • Ah...I'm glad its not just me who is jealous. My only comfort is that I am not in control and there is a reason this is taking so long. Soon it will be  (all of) our turn!

  • I find myself laughing/snickering at people and their plans, especially the ones who think they can plan their due date.  I'll admit that it's mostly jealousy, because I miss being that hopeful.

My favorites are the people who plan to have kids in a certain gender order, or the ones that think they can plan twins.  So hard not to roll my eyes right in front of them!

  • I don't laugh, but I do make a comment on how I hope it happens like that for them, but it may not.

I used to say that I wanted a baby born in August (my mother's birthday was August) and low and behold, we are having problems.

    You just never know.

  • I have friends and family members that plan out all that stuff way before they actually conceive. And wouldn't you know that they all meet their target dates within 2-3 months.

It's even better when they start planning out your own conception plan ("we can have babies together"). We're not at the stage where we're telling people about our IF so we just reply with the usual "we'll see."

  • Yeah, absolutely! As if it were that easy...

Maybe it's the career field I'm in, but I feel there is a correlation between big bad event (losing a job) or poverty, (etc.) and up'd chances of fertility.
