Water with intro of solids?

I read in Super Baby Foods that you should introduce water when you introduce solids to help out the new work load that is placed on the kidneys, but Hayden's pedi didn't say anything about this when we talked foods today.  (Surprisingly, he didn't say much at all about it Indifferent)

What do you think?

Re: Water with intro of solids?

  • Neither Bs pedi nor her pedi said anything about water. I would think if you did you would not want to give much, so her tummy wouldn't be too full to get calories from milk. I am interested to see what other people have to say.

  • I have heard of people introducing a sippy with water when they introduce solids, but I'm not sure of the reasoning.  I always assumed it was so they could start practicing with a sippy, but maybe they really need water?

I have so much to learn.

  • K's pedi reccommnded offering her water to start to reduce the strain on the kidneys and for practice drinking water and using a sippy.

  • hmm...i never heard anything like this.  Pedi never mentioned it and I can't remember when we first gave G water.  I think it was after he turned a year tho.
