Parenting after a Loss

My BF boys & bottles help

Jake ( DS1) never took a bottle ( 2 years BFing with no help). I wanted to make sure that Logan took a bottle so I tried several bottles until I found the one he likes ( tommee tippee ), I was all happy that he happily downs ounces at a time, turns out he will only take a bottle from me :0(. Why would that be?

Re: My BF boys & bottles help

  • Lots of BF babies will not take a bottle from mommy.  Or even from another caregiver if mommy is nearby.  Come on, mom!  Those warm cuddly boobs are right there!  Why are you giving me a bottle?

DS will not take a bottle if I am in the same area code!  Seriously - I had to leave the house when I was on maternity leave so that DH could do the test run with a bottle.

  • No ... He will only take it from me. Tonight I needed to take a shower & do a few things around the house I gave my mom a bottle & she had no luck. I sat down with him & he drank it up. This happened with DH too another night

  • He must see you as the sole provider of food!

I personally HATE giving DD bottles...I only pump so DH can do a feeding or 2 and to give myself one shift off.  If I am going to feed her- I just nurse b/c it bothers me the way she drinks a bottle- she's so UN-relaxed compared to her nursing temperament.

    Duh.  I can't read!

Though the same thing might apply...  He might take it from someone else (like your mom) if you leave the house.

  • Try wearing a t-shirt for a while and having DH lay it on his chest while he snuggles LO and gives the bottle. YOU LEAVE THE ROOM! If LO can hear you/see you it may ruin it. And this could totally fail as well, just so you're prepared
