My dd loves trail mix, and packs her lunch because the cafeteria food just doesnt cut it for me. I'm terrifed to send it to school with her though. Surely they would have sent a note or something home letting me know if there was someone there with an allergy? This is her first year (my first time sending a kid to school)...so I have no idea.
Re: Scared to send trail mix to school...
You could probably call and ask if it would make you feel better, but I would operate under the assumption that if you didn't get a note about allergies then you are fine. FWIW, we got a note about not allowing kids to share snacks because of a child with ceilac disease. I would think most schools would send a letter like that with teacher letters. Good luck!!
I'm curious about my DS taking PB&J in his lunch. I figure that they'd let people know if there were a problem, but I plan to ask anyways.

This will be my first year of sending my son with school lunches instead of buying and this has crossed my mind as well. The first day of school I'm gonna swing by the office (or call during the school hours) and ask them what their policy is.
Some children might not be registered yet and they may just show up on the first day of school or even the first week of school. There may be students in your child's class that have allergies but the teacher doesn't know yet, etc.
This is how it works at my kids' schools. They did not communicate anything to us about it, but I called and asked because we were new to the district.
