I'm a SAHM and my H is a private practice attorney. He will need to work his schedule around the baby like he did last time. But, we're having a scheduled c/s (for med reasons) so he'll be able to do his paperwork from home and not be scheduled for court for a few weeks.

I will be taking all my sick and annual leave- which will amount to 3 months (saved up over 7 years!). I don't get any specific paid maternity leave.

My husband only gets 3 extra days paternity, so he'll take that with some vacation days- probably about 2 weeks. Definitely wish it was more!

I LOVE my jobs maternity leave. I have whatever FMLA offers which I believe is 6 weeks. Then I am able to use all my sick/personal and vacation time which will be about another 6-8 weeks. After all that for a one time use only, I am given 1 pay period (2wks) at 1/2 pay for every year I have worked there. I'll be a month shy of my 10 yrs so I'll only have completed 9 yrs. That means 18 weeks at 1/2 pay. We also have the option of taking an additional year off with no pay but we do not have the finances for that.

so in all I have roughly 30 weeks off while still receiving most of a paycheck.

I'm a SAHM. DH doesn't get a paternity leave to my knowledge, but he has a very flexible position where he can take all the time off that he wants as long as he meets his goals, so he'll be taking a week or so off I'm sure.

Though he is applying for faculty positions with interviews all over the country happening Jan-Feb...I'm scared to death he's going to be out of town when I go into labor! Indifferent

QOTD: With DD I worked up until labor, I had 2 weeks vacation that I saved, plus I ended up taking 2.5 weeks unpaid. It was about 5 weeks. I FF so I didn't have to worry abput pumping. DH has 3 paternity days, plus he saved all 4 of his paid vacation weeks for her arrival. It worked out that when I went back to work, he was off for a week, then the babysitters started (my mom, MIL, and BIL)

With this birth I will we will plan for the same, except I will have 3 weeks paid vacation, so I hope to take a full 6 weeks off total.

I am a SAHM so i will be "working" just like every other day. As for my DH I hope he can stay home a little longer than with my DD. He just stayed home three days, which was thanksgiving so he would have been home anyway. He is an attorny though, and it will just depend on his caseload at the time. I hope to get him atleast a week.

I am a teacher and I have about 90 days saved up. I only plan to use about 50 of them and plan to go back to work the end of April. I have the time to take the rest of the school-year, but Dh and I plan to have a 2nd baby, so I want to save time for that LO. Once I go back to work, my mom will watch my baby.

DH will be in Korea for the birth. He will take a month leave probably in March. It will be good for us to have that time to bond as a family.

We both work now - but I work a night shift which is actually great with little ones. I'll take probably 6 wks off since Im having a c-section. DH is waiting to see if he gets accepted into the military. If that happens I'll stay home full time with the kiddos.

My Company's maternity leave policy is 8 weeks at 75% pay - which isn't bad at all. I will be taking at least that. I don't know DH's policy on paternity leave, but I am sure he will take something - even if it is a week of vacation time. My mom is also taking a week off to help (Our first baby and I am the baby of my family so I am basically clueless, I have never even babysat before). All-in-all, I have to say that we are pretty lucky.

I think I can only take 6 weeks. I will have to use short term disability (60%) pay. I was considering taking a little more and using vacation time, but I'm not sure it's necessary. DH talked to his boss about paternity leave... he has the same option as I do, but we don't want to both be at 60% pay. He asked to take 2 weeks off, then go back for 2 weeks, and then take the last 2 weeks off. His boss said that probably won't work and I'm pissed about it. Who knows, there's still a lot of time between now and then.

I went back to school recently so I'll be a sahm for a while anyway. DH only gets 1 day paternity leave. Fortunately he has been at his company for 12 years and has a lot of vacation time, close to a month. We actually just cancelled our "babymoon" so he can roll over the days to use next year instead.

I will be taking the 3 months guaranteed under FMLA, mostly unpaid. I think I may have a week or so of vacation time, plus 60% pay short-term disability for six weeks. I am trying to build a private therapy practice on the side right now, so I'm hoping (dreaming!) of being my own boss and get to leave my current job. We'll see...DH is a professor and has the summer "off" although he is supposed to be working on publications, so around the time my FMLA runs out, he'll be off for summer.

I get 6-8 weeks paid (depending on if it's vaginal or c-section) and then I can tack on any saved up vacation time. I'm in a uniformed service so I'm not allowed to take unpaid time off. I do have a good amount of vacation now though so I'm hoping to have almost 4 months off paid. Dh is entitled to FMLA and he can use vacation and sick leave towards that, so he'll take at least 1 month paid and possibly another 2 weeks unpiad.

I quit my job so I'll be a SAHM. Dh won't be taking paternity leave, but he will be using some of his vacation time (he gets 30 days a year) and some of his sick leave (he can use it as family sick leave as well). I'm not sure how long he'll be taking off, probably between 2-4 weeks.

I am a teacher so the plan right now is to use my sick days (about 6 weeks worth) for paid maternity leave and then to take the rest of the school year off. If I decide to go back to work Baby will be about seven months old. DH will probably take a week's vacation when the Baby is born and then a few weeks here and there while I am home. Neither of us get specific maternity/paternity leave; we just have to use our vacation/sick days that we've accumulated.

Thankfully, I'm self employed since I'm a musician and intend to "feel it out". My husband works a regular 9-5, so I can go to a gig when he's able to be home with the little one at night. I'm hoping to get back to work after a month at home. My DH is taking a 1 month paid paternity leave, as well. I'm soooo thankful for that.

I lost my job -- technically I wasn't rehired on a permanent contract because my supervisor wanted a male in the role -- so I'm automatically a SAHM. I'm looking for a job in San Diego, but we'll see what happens.

He doesn't have anything solid lined up down there either, so we're in a shaky situation. When he lands a job, he probably won't be comfortable asking for unpaid time off, and he definitely won't have accumulated any leave.

I stay at home- My 1st was born on a Wed and DH returned the following Tuesday (my mom stayed with us that whole 2nd week).

I assume with this one we will do the same thing- he will prob take about a week off give or take depending on the day the kiddo is born, and I am hoping my mom can come help me adjust again when he returns to work

I get 6 or 8 weeks full pay from short term disability (8 if c/s). Then I also plan on taking the remaining amount from FMLA, so it will be a total of 12 weeks with half of it paid. DH owns his own company so he might be home a week or so, but probably not any longer than that.

I am a working now, and will after baby is born. I get zero paid maternity, so I'm not sure how long I will be taking. It'll be hard to make the decision. I need to talk to my work about it first, to see if I will have a job to come back to. That will really determine how long I can/cant take off.

I am currently a teacher but will become a SAHM after the baby arrives. I will take my 6 weeks of maternity leave, then an unpaid leave until the end of the school year and resign my contract. My DH gets 4 weeks of paid paternity leave that he can take any time in the first 6 months after the baby is born. (Which seems like a pretty good deal)

How long do you plan to take maternity leave? Well I get 6 weeks; but, my boss has already told me if you need more we will work something out. I do not want you to go without pay. So I plan to only take 7 weeks - baby is due on the 14th of February so I plan on having my last day worked on the 4th which gives me that next week off before baby is born. Taking the next 6 weeks after baby is born as my time even if I do not get paid for one of those weeks that will not create a hardship on us we have been saving for this baby now for the past 18 months already.

If you are a stay at home mom, will your DH get a paternity leave? I do not plan to be a SAHM right now but that might change, I do plan to breastfeed so it might be easier if I do. As to DH he has two weeks vacation; two weeks sick leave as well a week maternity leave which will give him 5 weeks with pay; but, he is only planning on taking a week of maternity when he brings us home and a week of sick leave at present.

I am just not worried since my mom will probably already be down here when her first grand child is born in January. Then my MIL whom I consider a second mom ? I am sure she would come - stay as long as we need her. So I see no problems with what we plan at the present.

I am using all of my sick leave which will get me through 4 weeks and then I will take another 2-4 off unpaid for a total of 6-8 weeks off. DH will probably only get to be home a day or two depending on the day I deliver

I wanted to be able to take the remainder of the school year off but we just cannot afford for me to go unpaid for 4 months.
