Apparently my dog likes LO's spit up

DH and I have a bad habit of leaving our burp cloths everywhere (on the floor, the couch, the carseat, etc.). I was doing LO's laundry and I found a couple with holes in them. I thought maybe the washer had eaten them. We have one of those older standard washing machines and I have had things get caught around the mixer thing before.

Well, today LO spit up all over his clothes so I wiped him off and threw the cloth down so I could change him upstairs. I came back down and my dog was chewing/licking the crap out of the burp cloth. She didn't waste any time!

I think it's disgusting, but breastmilk is sweet so I assume she likes the taste of it. Weird dog!

I have to admit, it worries me that maybe this is destructive behavior and makes me nervous that it was something with LO's scent on it. She doesn't chew up his clothes though, which we also have a bad habit of leaving on the floor of his room. (I promise I used to be a neat freak!) Our dog does sleep in his room, so that must be a good sign as she used to sleep with us.

  • I wouldn't worry about it being destructive behavior directed at the baby.  One of my dogs loves the taste of spit up (whether it was breast milk or formula) and he's always stolen burp clothes that we've left laying around.  He did it with all three of our kids and has never shown any aggression towards them.  I think it's just a gross dog habbit.

  • Lol! Yes my dog just did this yesterday! LO spit up and some landed on the carpet and I saw a furry head pop out from under the bed and lick it up, so gross!! But I actually think my dog is scared of LO, he jumps everytime she squeals or poops loudly :)
  • LO vomited the other day and some of it landed on the floor. One of my dogs immediately jumped in and started licking it up. So. Gross.
