I am taking the day of DD's birthday party off (Friday); her birthday is on a Sunday. I have not taken her birthday off before (big meeting) and taken half days. This year her bday is on a Sunday. Not sure about DS1 birthday yet(his last two have been on weekends; this year its a Tuesday) but DS2 is always going to be on a holiday.
DDs birthday was on a Saturday, I took off the Friday before to finish preparing for her party, and I took off the week after her bday just to have some QT with her. I plan on doing that every year.
Even though he's too young to remember, I did for his first and I plan to for his 2nd. *I* personally just like being w/ him on that day. It was a huge day in my life.

yep! his party is a saturday but his birthday is on monday. i am taking the day off and taking him to the zoo. the past 2 bdays i have spent a special mommy day with him and want to continue it as a tradition on his birthday.
Yes, I have every year and I will this year for the 6th time. It's an important day to ME (if not her) and I like to just spend the time with her and reflecting on the past year.
I do... but I don't have to use a vacation day to do so. I work 12.5hr shifts... and parttime (0.6/FT) ... so it's only 2 a week. I just schedule myself to be off. If I lived at home, near family and worked a m-f job, I would.... if I took a m-f job here (22 hr drive from relatives)... then no. I save up my holiday and sick and vaca for needs... like dc first week of preschool is coming up and I have to go the first 2 days ... sit outside and wait for short days.
I normally take off the entire week of DD's b-day. It's in July, so it's one of my vacation weeks. This baby is due around Thanksgiving, so I'm fairly sure I won't be taking off a week around then. We'll see though, I'd definitely take off the whole day though.
I did not take off DD's first birthday. At DC they always do little parties on the kids' birthdays so I wanted her to be there for that. When she gets a little older and has a better understanding of birthdays I plan to take that day off so that we can have a whole day to spend together and do whatever activities she picks.
I didn't the first two years because I had started a new job and was planning on/was pregnant and needed to hoard days. Now that that's behind me, assuming I have days I will probably take a day for their birthdays if I have time available, at least until they are off to school.
I would take the day off and take cupcakes for DS's class at daycare to celebrate every year. I will probably do this when he is in elementary school until he is too old and is embarassed to be around me.
Next year his birthday is on a Saturday, I will probably bring cupcakes to daycare the Friday before.
I did this year. His birthday was on a Friday and his BIG party was the following day so I needed the day to prepare. Plus I wanted to be with him I plan to take off every year that his birthday falls on a weekday. Next year it will be Saturday, but I may even take off the Friday before just to spend more quality time with him...take him to the Zoo or something else fun!

I feel the same way. I'll do whatever I can to make sure that I am with my children on their birthdays.
I took off this year when the girls turned 1. It was a Friday. But since their next few birthdays are on the weekend, I wont have to worry about it. I probably wont do it again though.

I haven't in the past but I've left work early on her bdays. This year I'm working a reduced-hours schedule so I might be able to swing it, but we are also going on vacation together the week before, and I start Jury Duty the week after, so I'm not sure I'll be able to take another day off with all that. I'm thinking I'll leave early again.

I will every year that I am working. I think Birthdays are extreemly important. It is the one day our of the year when it is your day alone. There are so many things you can do. I always did very well in school so sometimes my mom would pick me up early from school and spend the day with me. It was great because it mommy and me time all too ourselves and that really helped to strengthen our relationship. I look back on those days very fondly. Sometimes my grandmother would come into town (from 12 hours away) and she would be in the car when I got picked up.
I know that work is important and the only reason I will continue to work it provide a good future for my child. I refuse to be one of those people who said I wish I wouldn't have worked so much and spent more time with the family.
So far his bdays have been Sat & Sunday (next week), but both times I've taken the Friday before off to clean the house & get things ready for his party. I hadn't really thought about what I'll do when his bday gets to the middle of the week, but I like the idea of it being a special day to spend with him. I'm lucky enough to have a lot of vacation time though, so it's not a big deal for me to take a day off.

We haven't had a birthday yet, but this is my plan. I've never taken off for my own birthday or H's.

DS -- 3YO
Similar - my DS was born Dec 23, so I'll have the day off for the next few years at least, with the way the calendar falls!
Yes, both me and DH-while they are in daycare. They go three days a week. When they enter primary school, no.
