WWYD about crazy loud music next door?

I am home alone tonight so I can't just march over there and (kindly) ask them to turn down the effing bass, and its raining so I wouldn't even if I could. But is it totally lame for me to call the non-emergency police line and complain? Its going on an hour now of obnoxiously loud bass and I've gotten Cam to sleep at least 4 times and she's woken up crying every time. And I know its the bass waking her because she's looking toward that window/wall crying and its keeping me awake as well....

I even tried laying down in our guest room with her because its further from that neighbor, but we can still hear it as if its in our own backyard.

I am getting angrier and angrier by the minute.. but don't want to be "that neighbor" that just calls the cops. They've been super nice to us all along and even helped us with our dogs several times... but come on! Its after 9pm on a wednesday! Turn down your stupid music.

  • Call the police department.  There is this one house a street over that has crazy parties on the weekend fairly often and it literally rattles our windows, it makes me soooo mad.  I always call and don't feel bad even a little bit.  People need to be respectful!

  • 1. Does your neighborhood have some sort of HOA/neighborhood directory?  Maybe you could call and ask them to turn it down.

    2. If not, then call.  There's no way they'd know it was you and even if they did, oh well.  They should be more respectful.

Good luck on getting some sleep.

  • I didn't read the last bit.  I can see why you're hesitant but they won't know it was you that called and keeping C asleep is important.  Good luck!
  • ugh!! That sucks, especially since you are essentially "stuck" at home and can't go talk to them yourself. If it were me, I'd probably give them a while longer (seething the entire time) to see if they turn it down on their own. Another hour though and I'd call the po-po.

And regardless, I would definitely say something about it to them tomorrow, especially since it sounds like y'all are on good terms and they would likely be responsive.

Sorry to you and poor sleepy Cam. How's her fever?

    Dear Bump: You suck.
  • Okay, I called the police. They're going to come drive around.

And yes we have an HOA, but they don't have the power to enforce any of the bylaws (basically all they do is pool maintenance and 'yard of the month') so they would have just relayed the message to the police anyway.
