I was joking with DH that I'm excited we are having a boy because I don't know how I would put up with a girl who was obsessed with stuff like Hannah Montanta, Jonas Brothers, etc.
I think it would just be hard for me to understand because I wasn't into that teeny-bopper stuff when I was a young kid/teen (Hanson, Nsync, Backstreet Boys, etc.). Most of my friends were, but for some reason it just wasn't for me.
But there has to be something slightly annoying and trendy that younger boys get obsessed with, right? I can't think of what it would be off the top of my head...so any ideas?
Re: What do young/tween boys like?
this is a total myth! boys get just as obsessed with stuff as girls and usually it's just as expensive if not more! boys do care what clothes and brands they wear and they can be picky little brats about it just as much as girls. boys tend to get obsessed with either sports.. which can get super expensive with all of the equipment and practices and what not.. or computer type stuff.. video games, that bakugan junk that was super popular last year. yeah I think it's a matter of raising your kids, boy or girl, from the get go that things don't make you happy. it can get out of control super fast in either sex.
o and for the record hanson is still my favorite band! I wanted to see them in Indy next week sooo bad (would be my 6th time) but I'm too poor
eta: sorry for the double post! why doesn't the bump ever let me delete my posts? grrrThis. Our nephew hardly comes out of his room. He's WAY more into video games than girls, but I think the tide might be turning...
I think I can handle that.
DH loves video games. So hopefully they'll just have fun bonding over that stuff together (unless he's totally embarresed by what games DH likes since who know what new stuff they'll have out in 10-15 years!).
And I'm well aware about how expensive sports and video games are thanks to DH.
Whew! Maybe we'll actually be in pretty good shape. As much as you can be for trying to predict the future of your childs likes/dislikes 10-15 years from now
Sports, video games, who knows what else.
Remember how popular Pokemon was for the 5-10 crowd forever?
I remember my little bro being obsessed with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for several years, he had tons of action figures from like 5-9.
Pogs were super popular among the boys when I was that age.

i work at a middle school so this is what i've learned - video games, skateboards/ snowboards, sneakers, cell phones, guitars/ drums, age-inappropriate tv shows like south park and family guy - basically anything to make them seem "cooler" and more "mature" and expensive toys that they can show off to their friends but will inevitably get bored with after about a week. also anything that they can hurt themselves on whilst trying to showoff to their friends - oh and they pretend that they hate girly teeny bopper stuff but for some reason know all the words to all the justin bieber songs
pre-teen/tween boys are ridiculous, good luck!
I loved Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles when I was little - hence my screenname - haha!
And Pogs - oh lord, what a waste of money those silly things were! I totally remember having those back in the day.
Even though I did have my fair share of barbies and stuff, I just I leaned a little more to the "tomboy" side when I was a kid. So maybe I'll understand all the silly things my son will be into.
