Trouble TTC

New here!

Hey ladies. I have been lurking here for a little while and feel like it is time to come out so I can ask questions and get the support that you ladies have offfered to everyone!

My name is Tara and my husbands name is Matt. We will be married for 3 years in September and have been ttc for about a year and a half.

I am scheduled for my HSG for next week and am looking for some feedback on what your experiences are.

Thanks Ladies!

Re: New here!

  • Hi and welcome.

Everyone's HSG experience has been different but for me it was really easy.  Both of my tubes were even blocked and the RE was able to clear them with an extra bottle of dye.  I had some minor cramping but it was no worse than AF cramps.  My RE had me take 4 Advil one hour before the procedure to help with the pain.  Make sure you take your own pad for after the procedure because the one they gave me was horrible.

    Good luck!

  • Welcome to the board.  I can't really tell you much about my HSG.  It was performed as part of my lap.  I hope yours goes smoothly!  Good luck!

  • Welcome to the board. I'm pretty new here too.

I can't give you any good info about my HSG as mine was done at the same time as my Lap so I was completely under anesthesia.

    Good Luck!

  • Welcome!

My HSG was horrid, but it was because the doctor didn't bring my chart to the imaging center with him (and it was a first thing in the morning procedure) and "forgot" I don't have a right ovary/tube.  My left tube was blocked, and he opened it up with the dye, but he tried to do the same thing on the right side.  He tried for several minutes before giving up, and told me he was concerned about that side when we went over the results right after.

I pretty much have to remind him every time I see him that I'm missing that part of my reproductive system.  He felt bad about not remembering, but I was in some severe pain for the next two days because of what he did.

Just make sure you take 800mg of ibuprofen about 30 minutes to an hour before going in, and if you don't take pain well you might want to have someone drive you just in case there's a problem during the procedure.

  • I took 4 advil an hour prior to mine as well and it is my RE's requirement that you also do a course of antibiotics to help prevent any possible infections from the procedure.

Mine was not terrible, less painful than I was expecting.  It didn't feel great when they were injecting the dye but I have been through much worse.  (I did not have any blockages.)

I hope yours is not too bad.

    GL and welcome!

Welcome.  My HSG was not bad I took Ibuprofen about an hour before my appt.  I had some cramping during the procedure, once it was complete the cramping subsided and I went on with my normal day.

  • Welcome & GL!

My HSG experience was that it only hurt for about 30 sec. when they put the cath past my cervix and another minute when they injected the dye.  The pain was really bad but since it was short it's totally do-able.  I didn't have any cramping afterward and drove myself.  I took 2 advil before going.  Oh, and my tubes were clear.  I went to work later that day on my feet walking around for six hours and no pain.

  • Mine wasn't a great experience at all. I did take the medicine before hand, but it didn't help me much. I do have one son (14yrs old) and it felt a lot like when labor pains first start(a really bad cramp). Now....it didn't last that long, so if you can tolerate cramping pain for a couple of minutes, you should be fine. Good Luck
  • Welcome!  I'm new to the board as well.  I have an HSG scheduled for 9/1 if my IUI doesn't turn up a BFP.  Good luck with yours!!
