Parenting after a Loss

DD goes to sitter tomorrow: tell me she won't cry ALLL day...

So my mom tried to watch DD today. Fail. She cried for an hour and a half straight and wouldn't take more than two oz in about a four hour period from her bottle. Probably my fault since I put some of the soy formula in there but I thought it was a small enough amount. NOT trying that again tomorrow with the sitter that's for sure. But my thing is that she knows my mom soooo well, why was she so upset when I was gone? I finally called home and my mom told me she'd been crying for that long (maybe? because of hunger and not eating but still, she's just been having sooo much seperation anxiety lately with me(that's what the pedi is calling it), please, please, tell me she won't cry ALLL day at the sitter's tomorrow right? It's her first day back there. I plan on staying an hour or so in the morning with her and then heading to school for about 4 hours or so....She's got to be okay for at least some of that time right?  RIGHT?Tongue Tied

  • I am sure she will be ok!  It can definitely be a rough transition at first, but I promise everything will be fine.  Especially if there are other kids there.  That's what really did it for DS.  He had a tough time at first, but he absolutely adores the other kids and just loves all the activity.

  • I know every baby's different, but that seems really young to have a grasp on knowing when you're there, and when you're not. I can't remember the developmental term for that (cognitive dissonance?), but I thought that occurred MUCH later. Maybe she was tired or overstimulated, and once she was so worked up she just couldn't calm down? I'm sure she'll be fine at the sitter's. She'll get used to it. Good luck!

  • I am sure she will be okay.  She may cry for a little while, but she will get used to it and be just fine.  No worries  :)  I was so worried about going back to work, but it has turned out just fine, and Natalie loves spending time with her Grandma while I am at work.
