Taking 6-wks old to a wedding... want your tips!

My sister is getting married in 2 weeks where I will be the MOH. DH and I will take our DD with us. It's also going to be a Catholic wedding, that starts w/ an afternoon mass, time gap, cocktails, and then reception... so it would be a long day for us.

Should we bring our stroller along w/ us or just the car seat?  Obviously, we will bring our diaper bag w/ all of the usual items (diapers, extra changing clothes, burp clothes, blanket, wipes, changing pad, etc)

I am also thinking to bring some expressed breast milk in a cooler for times that I will not be able to nurse her, but I would still have to pump since currently I nurse DD on demands. Please share your tips with me, TIA!

  • We are going to my sister's wedding this weekend (I am MOH, too).  I am not bringing the stroller to the actual wedding or reception.  I will bring the carseat and just set it on a chair.  Stroller is too big & bulky to haul around, and we won't be walking that much to where I would need it.

  • I was a bridesmaid in a wedding when DS was 9 weeks.  We took the stroller and carseat.  He needed to be rocked and rolled in the stroller every once in a while when he got fussy.  And we liked that when he fell asleep in the carseat he was at a better height for us when he was in the stroller.

Definitely bring the pumped milk and your pump.  DH fed O almost the whole day with pumped milk.  I was able to sneak away before I got into the bridesmaid dress and pump (it was about 3 hours after O had last nursed) once before the ceremony.  After the ceremony and photos, I was able to sneak away whenever O needed to eat and nurse him.  Since you're 6 weeks, I would try and pump every 2 hours if your LO is being bottle fed.

Bring the hat and pacifier as well.

Have a great time.  We had so much fun with O.  He was in a little white button-up onesie that looked like a formal shirt.  It was sooo cute, and he got lots of compliments!

  • We took DS to a wedding (an hour away) when he was 7 weeks old (although I wasn't in the wedding).

We just made sure we had that we had extra diapers (more than usual), clothes (the wedding was on the hottest day of the year), extra pacifiers, several ozs. of pumped milk, my pump (pumped in between ceremony and reception, and in the car on the way home, plus nursed him right before ceremony and right before cocktail hour)

He actually did exceptionally well.  He slept through the ceremony (Catholic Mass) and through a majority of the reception (that is when my MIL wasn't showing him off to everyone).  He did so well that we were able to stay for almost the entire reception.

    Good luck!

We kept the stroller in the car just in case, but we didn't need it.

  • I just took my 6 w/o to a Catholic wedding this weekend.  He did great!

I nursed him just before the wedding & took pumped bottles for the rest of the evening.  I pumped between the wedding & reception and again when we got home.

I was really nervous about taking him (MIL was supposed to watch him but couldn't last minute) but he did really well.  I just took the car seat, no stroller.
