How long can a toddler survive on just cheese?

For the past week, DD has been only eating the cheese portion of her meal. Cottage cheese with breakfast, cheese stick with lunch and sometimes dinner. Everything else? Ignored.

I'm tempted to not offer cheese with future meals but then I worry she won't eat anything. She's been quite the tantrum queen lately.

  • I like her style! Yum, cheese.

  • When Eve has a few days like that, we'll start using the cheese (and normally cheese is the item of choice) as a bribe. "If you eat x bites of broccoli, you can have some cheese." Or we'll melt the cheese on top of something else so that she has to eat the something else to eat the cheese.

And to answer your original question, I think she'll be fine for a while. I think it would be really hard to OD on cheese. Can you wrap a multivitamin in cheese at least?

This doesn't work for my kid.  He will dissect the food to get at what he wants.

  • No real advice to get her to eat other things but to truthfully answer your question, probably quite a while :)  Cheese is full of fat and calories and if kiddo was going to pick only one food, better cheese than many things!  Hopefully she'll come around soon!

  • I use a food she really wants as a bribe. 2 bites of meat then half of your cheese...or whatever it is. Works about 50% of the time. But cheese is good for her at least! My only concern would be constipation!!

  • Well Sara's almost 4 and she's still kicking!  LOL!  We went through a cheese faze that last a month.  She will still choose to eat cheese over anything else.

  • As long as she isn't constipated from all the cheese, I wouldn't worry that much.  If it were me, I'd just keep offering a well rounded meal (or at least something on the side of the cheese), and hope for the best.  C used to love love love cheese and now he hardly eats it unless its melted.
  • I've tried the bribe thing and she totally, utterly ignores me. :(

Oddly enough she isn't constipated, which has been an issue in the past. Especially odd because she only wants to drink milk these days, too.
