C-section question

I remember hearing or reading somewhere that if a baby is transverse when a c-section is preformed the cut is vertical instead of horizontal.  Does anybody know if this is true? It makes sense but I was just wondering if anybody knows anything about this.  Goggle isn't helping me.  I am having an ultrasound next week to check but it is possible that my baby has turned from breech to transverse.

Re: C-section question

  • I didn't think they did the vertical cut anymore-I don't think it matters what the position of the baby is.?
  • Loading the player...
  • I hear vertical is only in extreme emergencies when they have to get the baby out fast. I would have to ask though.
  • I think even for transverse they use the bikini cut (horizontal) and only do vertical in extreme/emergency situations....the vertical cut used to be the norm but not anymore!
  • cool, I hope you ladies are right and that I just got some bad info.  I will definitely ask my doctor if it turns out she is transverse.
  • Vertical is indeed only in emergency and higher order multiples.  (4-5 or more).

In the past though - it was the only type and incidently my mother had all three c/s with verical incisions.
