Baby Names

Lila vs. Lily

Do you think the names are too similar?

We're not even TTC #2 yet, but I love the name Lila. We have a cousin whose daughter is named Lily and she's a few months older than DS. We see each other a few times a year, but our family is very close.

Do you think they're too similar and too close in age to use?

Re: Lila vs. Lily

  • For siblings I would say yes. For cousins who see each other a few times a year, I think it's fine. Plus, the names look more similar than they sound.

This.  I love both names btw, but prefer Lilah of course.

  • Since its just a cousin, I wouldn't worry about it.  Like others mentioned for siblings its too close.  I'd go ahead and use the name if you like it!
  • Too close for siblings, but not too close for cousins! I love Lila. Definitely keep this one on your list! :)

  • No, I don't think they are too similar unless you pronounce them similarly.  How would you pronounce Lila?  When I hear this name, I hear Lie-Lah.  When I hear Lily, I hear Lee-Lee.  They sound different to me.
  • I agree that for siblings they're too close and I also agree they look more similar than they sound.

    Thanks ladies!

  • I don't have anything unique to add, but I just wanted to say I agree with everything all the PPs have said. Go for it!
  • For cousins, its fine, even if you are close to each other. They sound different enough for cousins, and Lila is beautiful, so go for it!
  • Yeah, I say go for it. I have cousins (from different families) that are Brayden and Bradley and no one cares. Also DH has two cousins named Joshua. Don't let others rob you of a name you love.

  • Lila is going to be our baby girl's name!!  I love it!
  • Lila is beautiful but another option is Leila (pronounced lay-la). I really love this name too.
