Kate cried for an hour when I put her down for a nap today - she refused to go to sleep because she wanted to hold onto my finger. I went in a few times & patted her back, and the last time, she grabbed my finger and immediately laid down and closed her eyes. I gave in, and let her hold it, and she was out in seconds. Fast forward to bedtime. It's been nearly an hour of crying, and I've gone in a few times to lay her back down. She grabs my finger & lays down every time.
No way am I starting THIS. For their first 8 years, my cousin's kids would only go to bed while their mom scratched their back, and would only sleep in their parents' bed. So every night one of the parents slept in the guest room. Insane!
She'll stop crying EVENTUALLY, right?
Re: So, she won't sleep without my finger
SAHM to 4 kiddos... K (5/05), N (4/09), C (11/10) and Baby A 1/13/14
I think it's a phase; a way to get attention. She doesn't have a specific lovey, but sleeps with 3 blankets & five stuffed animals. I know there's nothing wrong with her, but I feel awful.
Good idea!
Search my blog for the word sleep. There's a lot there on how we ended up doing CIO. Sometimes, as much as you don't want to, it's the best option, IMO. IF you have already identified that there are no other needs that need to be met. If the need is your finger, well, that's not a habit you want to start.
It didn't take too long with Landon. I'm sorry, I know sleep stuff is hard.
