How to sleep train when LO keeps standing in crib?

DD will be 9 months old on the 26th and I think it is time to try some sleep training.  She has no problem going to sleep on her own in her crib.  The problem is that she wakes up several times in the night.  Usually simply puting the pacifier will put her right back to sleep.

My concern is now when she wakes up she starts crying/screaming and immediately stands up in the crib.  She doesn't have great balance when she is tired and I am afraid that she will keep hiting her head getting down.  I usually get up as soon as  hear her and she is already standing.  I just lay her down and per the pacifier back in and she is fast asleep again...but this is happening every 2 hours!  Please help this mama that has a full-time day job and a husband that doesn't help!

Any suggestions?  Thanks

  • We just started doing CIO this week and DS is standing in his crib. He'll usually stand and cry for a little bit, then sometimes fall on his booty and sit there and cry. And then he'll eventually either lay down and fall asleep or literally fall asleep sitting up, and we just go in there and lay him down once we see this on the monitor.

you need to snap a picture of this

Ha! I should, he would get a kick out of it when he's older. He's done it every week this night since we started the CIO. He's a stubborn little one & fights the sleep.

Pretty much this - though DS will fall asleep sitting up with his head between his legs (so bent in half, I guess).

  • we started sleep training early and so far have had good luck but our DD regressed a little when she learned how to army crawl...and normally all it took was the binky too.  What we did that fixed it was leave FIVE (yes, FIVE!) binkies in different spots in the crib along with her sea horse that she loves and now she just picks up a binky and pops it back in and lays there staring at her horse and falls right back to sleep.  Just make sure to use soft binkies so he doesn't get hurt if he rolls onto them.  We still use the newborn soothies.

I'm going to try this.  For some reason, when she is in her crib she can't find her pacifier on her own.  She just wakes up, opens her eyes and cries!
