I always HATE going to get my oil changed because I never know how to say "no" to all of the extra's... like when they take out your air filter every single time and they are like "oh this looks bad, you definitely need a new one"... like today when they did it and the filter was brand new and completely clean. Anyway, I usually make DH bring the cars for oil changes so I can avoid all of this.
Anyway! Today when I went I declined every extra, but when they said "do you want the oil for a car with high miles?" I said yes, since my car has 90k miles. WELL when they were finished my bill was $75!!! Ugh, I am beyond upset about this and I don't think I will ever go alone for an oil change again, I can't win!
That's all, just needed to get that out!
Re: I got ripped off!! (NBR)
That's outrageous! I've never paid more that $40 for an oil change and that was when they actually replaced the air filter for me!
Ugh. You need to go somewhere else.
Have no idea what kind of car you have, but if it happens to be a Toyota, I always had really good experiences at Kings Toyota. In fact, we still drive up there from Kentucky (after a couple of bad experiences at the local dealership) if we need something done.
They never pushed extras on me, always told me the total up front before I agreed to any service, and usually did those little extras (like changing the air filter, rotating tires, etc) for no add'l charge.

Ack! That sucks. I go to Valvoline and they take competitors coupons so I almost always get everything for 19.99. I can be a huge *** when it come to that kind of crap. I HATE when they try to take advantage of people (usually women). If they tell me about something that needs to be done extra I always say "how much?" and then usually "I'll have my husband/dad look at it and decide if they think it needs to be done, thanks for the heads up".
Side note: DH knows NOTHING about cars and he gets taken advantage of every damn time. So, now I told him only I get to handle car troubles.....hehehe.
This is why I am glad DH is our family mechanic.
And I will ditto pps, never agree for them to do anything until after you "talk" to your DH. Even if you don't talk, it's a good excuse for them to leave you alone.
