Addressing new teacher

Hi everyone,

I have to write an email to my son's new principal with some questions. Do I address the email to Mr. So and So, or to his first name? I know as a kid of course I would call him Mr. So and So, but I don't know if that's different as a parent.

It is a business letter. Address it as you would someone at professional level. Mr. Smith would be appropriate.

I always call teachers/ principals by Mr/Mrs XYZ as a sign of respect

I always address someone as Mr. or Mrs. until they ask me to call them by their first name.

I just had this issue today. I chose to address it to Mrs. X then in her response letter she told me to call her First Name, which is how I will address her from now on.
