3rd Trimester

How many newborn sized items do you have?

I only have 2 onsies, 1 outfit and 3 sleepers.

Most of the clothes I have are 0-3 months or 3-6 months.  I have a few things in the 6-9 category and a few 12 month items as well.

I don't want to buy too many newborn things because I am afraid this will be a large 8-10 pound baby and they will be waisted as we will go straight to 0-3 months.  But I also don't want to have to run out and buy stuff at the last minute if he turns out to be small.

Re: How many newborn sized items do you have?

  • I have a dozen or so NB outfits/sleepers, but I also have small babies, the doctor said he thinks this one will be close to the 7lb mark.

  • I also have very little... But last week Dr. gave me a prediction of how much LO will weight... I know it's not 100% sure but at least I am getting an idea. My sister went and bought a few more things in NB size, I am sure if I need more my mom or sister will be able to get me some...

  • Well I have like 4 sleepers, a going home outfit (if it fits), and a couple onsies with matching pants.  This is my first so I am not sure what to expect.  So far (which means nothing), she is measuring right on track....but we will see.

I guess if she outgrows/never uses them then I will just give the clothes to the other women I know who are expecting girls.

  • I don't have a lot at all--1 sleeper, 1 long sleeved onesie, 1 pair of pants, and a zipped up sweatshirt with pants outfit.  I don't want to buy too my either in case I have a big baby.  If she turns out small I'll have my parents or DH run out and pick up some clothes.
  • Tons. DD was in NB clothes for about 6 weeks. She was 6lb 15oz at birth. I have probably 8 sleepers, 12-15 onesies & a few pants.

  • I think I have about 6 or so outfits, but I also have a lot of those sleeper bags (???) you know those gown things with the elastic at the bottom.  I think that should last until she will fit into the 0-3 month size.

  • The clothes I received at my shower were all NB and stupid me opened it all before realizing what size it was so it can't be returned. Then, I have a friend who gave me a ton of NB stuff. In addition, some of the 0-3 mo stuff (carters anyone?) shrank to almost NB size. So I feel like I have too much and won't use half of it. Oh well....

  • I have a LOT of NB handmedowns.  You can get NB stuff for CHEAP, too, since people get it a lot at showers, etc and barely use it.

  • Tons.  DD #1 was tiny and came home in preemie clothing.  She didn't start wearing 0-3 stuff until she was 3mos old.  If her sister is anything like her, we'll definitely get good use out of the NB stuff.

  • Too many and I haven't even had a shower yet! I really hope people include gift receipts if they give NB or 0-3 stuff so I can get a bigger size, other wise it will just go to waste. My BFF had a little girl not too long ago and gave me a bunch of hand-me-downs, PLUS a bunch of stuff that was never even worn. Funny unrelated story: my sister had gone through the same sitch with her first-born (too many NB, hardly anything got used) and she went to a shower for a friend where someone gave the mom-to-be some toddler outfits. She was thinking "Gosh, how thoughtful. How cool that she'll have something to put on her kid later on." So she went to another shower later on and decided to do the same thing for that mom. The woman just looked at it like an elephant walked out of the wrapping paper and looked at my poor sister as though she must have confused the purpose of the party and said "Um, this is like a 2T?" Haha, so much for being thoughtful, I guess.
  • I've had 1 shower and have 2 more coming up.  I got 1 onsie and 1 outfit in NB, the rest was all 0-3 or 3-6.

I do have one of those gown things, but it says 0-3 on it. I think I will pick up a few of those and leave them in the packaging just in case.

  • I have a good amount. A lot of newborn onesies but my baby is going to be small...I already know. Than I have a ton of the 0-3/3-6. I have a pretty good amount of 6-9/12 months too. People have been very generous :)
  • None.  I'm expecting a larger baby (8lbs) so it didn't seem worth it.  There's nothing wrong with the 0-3 month clothes being a tad big at first.

  • Only a few, probably no more than 5 items.  I think this baby is going to be at least 8 pounds based on the last ultrasound I had so I didn't want to get too many tiny things.  I can always roll up legs and sleeves if the 0-3 stuff is a bit too big.
  • I got a ton of clothes from one of my friends and a lot of them were newborn size and then at my shower I recieved pretty much all 0-3 & 3 -6 and a couple 6 and up.  Hopefully I've got enough in the newborn size and if I do have to much or to little there is a Other Mothers consignment shop and I will just trade in what I don't need.

  • Hardly any. We haven't bought much other than a few cute things... spread out from NB to 9-12 months. MIL has warned me about how large her babies were, so I decided not to over do it. Plus who knows what people will buy for the shower!

  • I have about 10 newborn outfits. I figure anything more someone can get them (mom/DH...etc...)
  • A bunch. DD#1 was 6lbs. 10oz. and wore preemie for a bit, then NB until about 3 months so we have a bunch from her. DD#2 is estimated to be around the same size, so I've bought some more winter appropriate NB things for her (DD1 was born in May so a lot of her NB stuff is summerish).

  • I have a good amount.  Some handme downs and some new.  DS was pretty small- 6lb 110z and was in newborn clothes for 8 weeks.  I should get plenty of use of what I have.
  • I have tons! So many people have given me hand-me-downs. Her side of the closet (she shares with DS) is overflowing!!!
  • Quite a few...DS was in Newborn size for about 5-6 weeks.  I thought I wouldn't need any since he was born at exactly 40 weeks, but he was only 6lbs 6oz!

  • The only newborn clothes I have were hand me downs. My daughter was over 9lbs and while she did fit in newborn clothes, she didn't fit in them for long. Total waste for me.
