Pregnant after a Loss

Playing it safe during 2WW?

I've had 3 miscarriages total, 2 within the past year and was just diagnosed with Protein S Deficiency so my doctor is planning to have me do Lovenox injections the next time I get pregnant to hopefully prevent another loss.  Anyway, my question is how cautious are those of you who have had miscarriages during the 2WW?  Do you drink alcohol, exercise, drink caffeine?  I have been drinking caffeine as normal and alcohol (usually just a glass or two of wine over the course of the 2 weeks) but am wondering I should cut those out.  And I have been a major slacker on exercising the past year but am so out of shape that I really want to start a new running program.  But I'm wondering if that is wise to start exercising when I haven't been doing it regularly during a 2WW?

I am only now questioning how cautious I should be because I have drank caffeine and very moderate alcohol during the 2WW for the 3 miscarriages I've had.  I've abstained from both the second I got a BFP, though.  I have had 1 healthy pregnancy and incidentally, I did not drink alcohol during that 2WW (but I did drink caffeine).

I'd be curious as to what you think?

  • I drank until it was pink (of course in moderation)!  As for the work out, I wouldn't start a crazy workout, but light workout to ease you into it should be fine.  Just remember all those fertiles out there and the crazy stuff they do before and during their pregnancies and their babies are just fine.  GL to you!!!

  • I usually drink till it's pink.  With the IVF cycle I didn't do anything... not even drink soda pop.  With so much time and money at stake I didn't want to do anything that might have affected my chances of implantation.

  • I I lived life normal until I got a + hpt...and I never gave up my one cup of coffee a day.
  • I didn't change anything in my life until I had a +HPT.  Good luck and I hope to see you here soon!
  • I'm a moderation kind of girl.  I had a little coffee (1 cup/day), had a few drinks (1-2/weekend) and toned down the hard core exercise.  Not sure if it made any difference, but it made me feel a little better.

  • I am sorry for your losses.  I've only had one loss.  When I begin a cycle, I stop exercising because I'm on injectibles that make my ovary wobbly.

Otherwise, I drink alcohol and caffeine - sometimes with abandon - always hoping it's my last hurrah for 10 months.  Not that I am at all a model citizen for pregnancy so you probably should go with your gut - and not my bad example.

I hope this is your BFP, sticky baby cycle!

  • I went to a wine tasting for 3 hours on May 2 and got my BFP on May 12. :)

  • After my failed IVF cycle, I started running 3-5 miles a day and drank plenty of wine.  I had a bottle a day the weekend before my BFP.  One Thursday, one Friday, one Saturday (complete with drunken meltdown about never getting pregnant), one Sunday and BFP on Monday.

I wouldn't worry too much, you'll be fine.

  • I chose not to drink during the 2ww, but I'm not a drinker to begin with so it wasn't a big deal.  I also tried to drink more water and less caffeine during the 2ww.   I wouldn't start a new running program yet.  Wait and see how things turn out, but you could walk instead of run.
