Had IUI this morning (all went well, go back in for the second one tomorrow!) and have a question. I have the opportunity to go up north for a couple days with a few girlfriends Sunday-Tuesday. My RE's office does 3dpiui progesterone b/w which would be Monday, right in the middle of when I'm gone. I don't HAVE to go on this trip and will obviously do whatever is better for my chances of having a successful cycle. My RE gave me two options:
1. Don't go on the trip or try to rearrange the dates we go if possible (as I had suggested we might be able to do) and still come in at 3dpiui for b/w.
2. Start progesterone cream (he gave me enough samples of Crinone to get through the 2ww) and don't worry about coming in for a progesterone check at all since this would be a more proactive approach anyway.
I don't know what to do. I don't want to take/use something if I don't need it...but at the same time if this is a more proactive approach maybe it wouldn't hurt anyway? What experience do you have with progesterone post-IUI? Do some RE's do this no matter what, just to err on the side of caution?
Re: Question about progesterone post-IUI
Personally, I would go ahead and take the progesterone. But, then again, with my wacky hormones, I was required to take it.
My opinion is why not take it if you can go ahead with your trip and not do the bloodwork? Give your veins a break.
Good luck!!
I haven't had my IUI yet...but my RE already called in my Prog. Rx to use after our IUI. I've never had any wacky bw...he just has all patients take it. I'm assuming this wouldn't be standard if there was any "issue". If I were you, I'd take the prog. and go on the trip... you might enjoy the distraction for a few days! Good luck!
My RE does the P4 check at 7dpiui. I would probably go ahead and start the Crinone and ask if you can do the test at 7dpiui. Are they checking at day 3 just to confirm that you actually ovulated?
Is there a hospital or clinic where you are staying that could do the b/w and give the results to your RE?
Good luck with whatever you decide!
I asked about doing the b/w later, and they said they stick to doing it 3 days past---4 if they *have* to--but they don't really check beyond that point. Yeah they check to make sure my progesterone is high enough...They told me that 3 days post IUI they like it to be at/above 10, and mine have been 15 and 16 for the two IUI cycles I have had done.
I'm not sure about anything local where we're going--it'd be up to a friend's family cottage.

I'd take the suppositories and go on the trip. 1. they can't hurt-- yeah the side effects aren't fun (sore boobs, leaking vag, etc) but its not unbearable. 2. The trip will be a nice distraction from the beginning of your 2ww and I'm sure getting away for a few days will do some good:)
Glad this mornings IUI went well and I hope tomorrows is just as good! Good luck with whatever you decide:)
My RE will always try to support LP when either using injectables. The info I collected (from RE and papers) is that the need is not as critical as when doing ivf but there could be hormone confusion while doing hormone replacement and superovulation.
TTC since 1/2008
My RE only did 7dpiui P4 checks. I am normally not a med person but I would say take the Rx and enjoy yourself with your girls!!
FX for you!!!!
