First of all, I am kind of surprised and slightly offended that people would actually believe I would make the kid feel bad for having an accident. I am not at all that kind of teacher, and I don't even raise my voice with my students ever.
Secondly, I don't even know which kid it was because it happened at the end of the day...it fell out of his or her shorts onto the floor in pieces. It was time to go home before I could discover the culprit. If I had known who it was, I would have taken them to the nurse to get changed and told them it was okay and that it happens to everyone at some point. I have a feeling of who it was, because I have one kid that doesn't want to stop playing to use the restroom, which I feel at their age should not be an issue. This child does not have any "issues", or I would obviously feel different. And I am not even sure it was that child.
Third of all I was simply venting about my rough first week of school. I understand they are in kinder, this isn't my first year with this age group, but I have some very defiant and hyper children this year and it has been an extremely challenging start to the year. I do not have an aid, and I only get 30 minutes a day to use the restroom and eat. I also have to clean up my room since we don't have a janitor. So, the poop issue was just one thing to really set me off after the kids had done nothing but test me all day. I have NEVER had a class like this. Last year I won the staff award for most patience, so to insinuate that I am unprofessional for not wanting to clean up poop off the floor after a long day of trying to manage a class full of 24 really hyper kids all by myself is just ridiculous. I am sure you wouldn't be thrilled about it either. I know being a teacher is hard, and the pay isn't great, but I didn't sign up for being the janitor too and this year I am thanks to more budget cuts.
As a side note...I was also offended by the person who mentioned "rubbing the kids face in it", and I agree that I would not even do that with my dog. By the whole post was just a vent about me having to clean up poop that I suspect came from a kid very capable of knowing when to use the restroom.

Thanks. You know how some people can be. Especially non-educators. Like parents when they think their kids are angels all day and never believe when they do something wrong, or when they make up a million excuses for why their kid has misbehaved. I can very easily tell which students "know better" and which ones don't, and if I even suspect a child might have some type of learning issue or other issue preventing them from understanding right from wrong I would absolutely do everything in my power to help them.
I am a teacher too and I refrained from posting on that all day today because I thought it wasn't right that you were being thrown under the bus when you weren't even here to defend yourself!
I do not think anything you said was unprofessional. We all have bad days, and honestly the kids do things that can make it worse (ie the kid who drew a giant penis on the wall when I was out because my nana passed away...like that was what I wanted to see when I came back). I don't think there is anything wrong with mentioning something that happened in the classroom either, lots of other people talk about what happens at their work too and what's to say their clients don't come on here!
I would also like to know where in our contract it says we are held to a higher moral standard! We can't vent about our school day? At my school we have a teacher that stabbed a kid in the throat with a fencing sword in his classroom and that teacher still has his job!
This!
Thank you. I almost forgot there are so many perfect people on here that never complain. Ooooops my bad.
I know what you meant too. Weird that anyone would think anything differently. It take a special kind of person to be with children that age all day. Thank you for being a teacher.
Hope the rest of the school year goes well for you.
This. I hope things get better for you!

I'm not sure if you are referring to me or not but I actually said that I thought that you likely reacted differently in the classroom and posted here out of frustration.
To be fair, you couldn't comfort the child because you said you didn't know who it was.
I have not read your other post, mainly b/c I think it will piss me off.
Vent, scream, curse, laugh about your day... sometimes that is what you need to do to make it to the next one. It doesn't matter your profession, we all have those days. ((HUGS))

I understood your post and where you were coming from.
I don't agree with one of the comments that was made, but it's not like you commented on it to extend the "joke" (I use that term loosely in this comment's case).
I could see from the time you joined this board that you love your job and care a lot for your students, and that makes you a great teacher!
This exactly! I'm sorry everyone was attacking you. I teach 2nd grade and one year I had a kid who used to have accidents all the time because he was afraid of "the ghosts in the bathroom." There is a huge difference between being afraid like that, and to just not be willing to stop playing long enough for a bathroom break when you know better. Girl, sometimes us teachers just need to vent and I don't think you were wrong at all in your earlier post!

Agreed. Cleaning up poop is usually not the highlight of one's day. Unless one is a proctologist, but even then....

I was not referring to you, and you are correct that it was as simple as being frustrated about cleaning poop off the floor. And even if I had known it was the kid I suspected, I would have comforted that kid just like any other, regardless of their behavior. I would never punish a child because of an accident.
Yes, and that does not make you any better. Like you have never complained. I was complaining about cleaning up poop from the floor after school...BIG DEAL. And my parents don't speak English, so I doubt they will be googling me. And just because it annoys you so much I am going to DD. AND I know the moral standard is there...and I don't think I have a compromised moral standard because I complained about cleaning poop since we don't have a janitor. GEEEEEEEZ.

this. and now refraining from saying the truly terrible things I am thinking
Then why do you care????!!! Seriously. I "got the point" and it was dumb. I am a teacher and I didn't realize someone would make a big deal out of me complaining about poop? That doesn't even make sense. You just love to stir the pot. It doesn't even matter what the post is about. I just feel sorry for you.
Oh, and I am only arguing this point still because I it is helping me blow off some steam. Thanks for that. Did you really think an educated person such as myself is going to jeopardize my career for something silly like that? I went back and read the OP before DDing it, just because I am tired and forgot what I wrote exactly and the OP said "A kid pooped on the floor today. How am I going to survive this year? That is all." Ummmmm....not sure how you could think that was worthy of losing my job. I am pretty sure even my parents would be complaining about cleaning up poop.
Ha ha ha...usually I am very puppies and rainbows, but the combo of a rough first week of school, a BFN this morning, and being exhausted has unleashed the beast. I am NOT putting the nice face on today. Sorry.
Honestly, I am just enjoying calling you out...because it needs to happen. Someone has to knock you off your high horse. I am stirring up what YOU started

Funny, you seem to say this a lot. Maybe you are not as eloquent as you think you are. Seriously, you hardly ever post on TTCAL anymore unless you are flaming someone.

I think this whole situation has been blown out of proportion!
However, I think teachers have to be REALLY careful about what they post about on places like facebook and message boards. There are so many parents that get mad at you and take someone you said and run. One of my friends just got suspended from work for something she complained about on facebook. Someone printed it out and took it to her boss. I get that cleaning up poop was not fun, but it just looks bad to post about it. Just my honest opinion. Vent to people IRL - or get a screen name that doesn't scream your real name and don't add your picture to your siggy. Then vent.
