1st Trimester

Anyone losing hair like crazy?

I know some women lose hair after giving birth, but mine has been falling out like crazy already! I have pretty thick hair to begin with, but I've been having to clean my hairbrush out after each time I use it and its SCARY! Not to mention being covered in stray stands 24/7.

Anyone else experience this? Or know how to make it stop/slow down?

  • I didn't think of it until you mentioned it, but now I'm realizing that I have been too. Wow. I have no idea what to do for it. Anyone else?

  • I don't have that problem but could you talk to your hair dresser? I'm sure they've seen everything.
  • I haven't noticed this myself but my friend began loosing her hair in chunks and she said thats when she knew she was pregnant (with her third).  She said this happened to her every pregnancy.

  • Yeah, now that I know I am pregnant it makes sense. The last week or so I have had excess hari when showering or brushing. Crazy!

  • That can be a sign of your thyroid being out of whack.  Usually you STOP losing it while PG.  I'd mention it to your doc/midwife and see if s/he is concerned about it.

    This.

That happened to me in my last pregnancy during the first tri.  My thyroid was wacky and they had to monitor it for a little while, but it ended up not being a problem.

Thanks for the info, thyroid problems run in my family so I will definitely have it checked out.

  • I lost so much hair I cannot believe I'm not bald yet!!! I'm hoping the pre natal vitamins will help :)
  • I talked to my OB about it last visit, she said it's normal. That I'll lose tons, then it'll start getting really thick, and then after I'll lose it again. Vicious cycle I guess. It's all worth it.
