Waiting to shop til after shower?

So DH and I disagree on this. We've already started buying clothes, but he thinks we should wait until the shower before buying any other baby gear. I think we should buy some things now, like the crib and bedding. His mom has already told him twice that she plans on buying any of the nursery stuff that we don't get at the shower and to just wait until then to go shopping. But I don't know if she fully realizes how much that would cost and would feel guilty if she ended up spending a lot of money. Plus I don't expect to be given everything.

What are you ladies doing? Is there anyone waiting until after the shower to shop?

I'm also waiting until after the shower to shop. The only thing I've gotten so far is some cute outfits, then everything else I'm going to wait. I'm having the shower the day I turn 30 weeks so I think we'll have plenty of time.

I'm holding off on purchasing anything I'd register for until after the shower (completion discount!!). But we did start buying the nursery furniture (my parents and grandparents offered to buy this), as well as the stroller and car seat (DH's parents offered to buy these) already.

My goal is to have the nursery set up in time for the shower because the shower is at our house and I'd like guests to be able to see the room.

So same goes for bedding and decor - I'm trying to get as much of this stuff purchased and set up as possible before the shower, so I haven't registered for these items.

I have bought a couple of cute outfits, the border for the room, and one bedding item so I could match other fabric colors. We are also buying the furniture just becuase we are purchasing that. I am not buying anything else till after the shower. I would love to have more of the nursery set-up, but I am waiting till after the showers. Anything thay we do not get, I will go back and buy after the shower.

We've bought a few random outfits here and there. And already have gotten a TON of hand-me-down outfits. So we are defintely done shopping for clothes until after the shower.

The only thing we purchased was the crib. Both DH and I would feel terribly guilty putting that on the registry and having any friend or family member buy it for us since it's so expensive.

The only few expensive things I have on the registry are the car seat/extra base and the stroller.

If we don't receive either of those at the shower then we'll buy them with the completion discount.

We bought some clothes and other "gear" but I'm TRYING to wait until after the shower to buy things like the siwing/pack and play. A coworker is giving me ehr crib and my mom is buying all the nursery furniture. But anything I registered for only one of then I'll wait until after the shower.

At BRU they told us it would be mailed either a week before or a week after your due date.

We plan on furnishing and decorating the nursery ourselves and, hopefully, having that completed before the shower.

We definitely won't buy small items like clothes or toys, since we figure that's what most people will give us. We'll probably also hold off until the end to buy a couple of the big "baby gear" items like the stroller, car seat and P&P, because I'd like to offer people a range of price points on our registry.

We've gotten the nursery set up (furniture & decor) and the odd outfit that I couldn't resist. Other than that we plan to wait until after the showers to buy anything. They are probably going to be held on consecutive weekends, so I shouldn't have to wait too long after the 1st one (Oct. 9th)

The only thing we purchased was the furniture. MIL is actually giving us about half the cost of the crib back, since she planned on purchasing it for us (then she heard the price, lol). Other than the furniture set we are waiting until after the shower. No point on spending money on things that people might buy for you!

My parents got us the baby's furniture and DH wants to wait until after the showers to finish shopping.. As painful as it is, I'm holding off until then..

We're waiting until after the shower to shop. It doesn't make sense to buy things that we might be given. Not that we're expecting a whole lot, but at least we'll know what we have and what we'll need afterward.

I don't have my shower date(s) confirmed (even remotely), but my thought is to wait until afterwards to shop anyway. Unless your shower is in November, I think waiting is best.

ETA: We have bought nothing for the baby yet. Though we got a hand-me-down crib (may or may not use it, based on how well it travels) and a hand-me-down carseat...although it's a 1 yr / facing-forward carseat. We'll still need to get the infant one.

I have bought some clothes and the bedding set. We plan to purchase the crib ourselves, but is currently on our registry. I am waiting for the room to get painted to do that. We do plan on waiting until after the shower to see what we still need/want and will purchase ourselves.

I have no bought a single thing for Rocco. As hard as it is, I am waiting till after the shower to buy anything. The only thing I MAY buy before that would be the outfit we are bringing him home in if i find a good price, since DH wants him to wear something from each of his fav sports teams.

I must be an odd man out, because we are buying pretty much everything before the showers. I am leaving "fun" stuff, bottles, small things and clothes for people to buy for us since that is what people like to buy. I don't think it is right to expect people to buy us stuff. We have no close family in the area so they probably are not going to get us anything. When an item we want goes on sale we buy it because it is usually more discounted than a completion discount would be. Also, there is no way I would want to spend that much money all at once right before the baby comes.

im waiting til after my shower because im hoping to get some of my registry items and/or gift cards. and i also don't want to buy something then have someone else buy me the same kind of stuff.

i bought my furniture so far, but my mom seemed disappointed i got it already like she wanted to get it or something (even though she said she didnt a few weeks ago lol), so im gonna wait til after i know the sex and my shower to get anything else, so i dont deprive future grandma from spoiling her grandchild.

My shower won't be until November 13, but I'm doing my best to wait on purchasing most things. We have all the furniture, so I'm going to focus on getting the room all put togther and decorated ourselves (I'm going to make the decorative bedding). We've already bought the carseat/snap&go stroller and pack-and-play because they were on clearance for great prices (why make friends/relatives pay full price when you can buy it yourself for over 50% off?).

Thanks for all the feedback. I might try to convince DH to buy at least the crib. One of our showers is at about 7 months, so we will have some time to get things. I just didn't want to wait until the last minute.

I have bought all the nursery furniture minus maybe one item if we have the space, all the nursery decor, crib bedding & accessories. I have also bought some clothes & diapers. I figure that if I buy it, its one less thing on my registry for other people to buy. I am pretty picky when it comes to clothes, so I cannot guarantee that what people buy I will actually put on my child either, so not to sound ungrateful, I really hope aside from sleepers & onesies, we don't get a lot of clothes. I am not buying any of the big ticket items like the car seat, stroller, etc until after showers because these are the types of items my family likes to buy & I have no problems if they want to do so. When things pop up on the sites I am members of, I have to sit & decide if I think anyone will buy it or not before taking advantage of the deal or not. There's plenty on our registries & we'll get stuff we didn't register for as well, so I'm not too worried if I buy something myself.
