Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Legs stuck in crib...

Been lurking here recently since my baby is nearing in on 6 months and these topics seem to be more pertinent.

My little chunky monkey has been moving around her crib for awhile now.  She's gotten a leg stuck between the slats before but not too big of a deal.  However, I got a phone call from my mom (who is at our house with her today) this afternoon that she had a leg through each slat up to her thigh while sleeping - she got stuck and shrieked and my mom went flying upstairs.  She had a terrible time getting her out and thinks she may end up having some bruises.

I know bumpers are generally considered a no-no, and my pedi has told me that several times. I have a call into the pedi right now to see what they say as an alternative - if they'll say breathable bumpers are okay.

What have you done to prevent chubby thighs from getting caught???

(and if you use breathable bumpers- where did you get them?)

  • We use bumpers on 3 sides of the crib but can't on the fourth side due to crib design. We have just started encountering the same problem with stuck legs. I am considering a sleep sack to prevent DS from squirming around and getting stuck.
  • I just use regular bumpers.  The breathable ones are sold at BRU.

  • I use the breathable bumpers.  We have had no problems with them and it keeps DD's legs inside the crib. I got mine at BRU.

Same here! DS used to kick his legs out all the time, that's why I got them.

  • We had bumpers on DD's crib from the first time she was put in there around 3-4 months.  Just took them off bc she was able to take them off by lifting them to look 4 me or whoever she could be found 2 rescue her.  So with that being said yes I see her leg or arm sticking out but so far she has had no problem getting them out herself.
