Last week I posted about a potential boy name https://community.thenest.com/cs/ks/forums/thread/40609017.aspx and the next day at our big u/s DH changed his mind again and decided he wanted to find out the baby's sex.
So now we have 4 months to settle on a mn. Here are some other names from our spread sheet that I hadn't original paired with Francis. I have omitted all the other names that ended with s.
Again, I already know that Francis is wildly unpopular, but we love it
ETA: DS#1 is named Theodore Cardiff
Re: MN for Francis
I totally agree with you in theory, however, this week will be the 3rd anniversary of my father's death and I'm just not sure I'm emotionally ready to use his name yet. I'd like to think that in 10 yrs I'll be at peace with using the name, but right now I'm not sure if I can do it. I think that's why I think Owen or McCary are good compromise names.
Francis Lloyd - too close to Frank Lloyd Wright (although I like the name, Lloyd)
Francis Owen - nice - I like Owen quite a bit
Francis Aiden - if you're going for Irish, I'd spell it Aidan. Aiden is the Americanized version of the original spelling
Francis Nathaniel/Nathan - okay, seems safe though
Francis Michael - a good bet - he has Michael to fall back on if he doesn't like Francis
Francis McCary - I like this idea
Francis Andrew - okay

My DH's name is Francis Robert! He's never really gone by it, though, because he's a "fourth" and his dad and grandfather always used Francis/Frank. DH goes by a NN based on Robert instead.
Anyway, I picked Francis Michael out of your choices, but thought I'd throw Francis Robert out there, too!
PS: We decided not to pass down Francis as a FN again, but we're using it as our MN!
Ohhh, I see. I didn't realize your father had passed, I'm so sorry to hear this. I think Owen or McCary are great names, esp. McCary. I do hope you find the readiness to use Michael, because I think it would be a great way to remember your dad.
BTW, I love the name Francis. That was going to be my name if I were a boy, nn Frank. I have a little cousin Francis, nn Franny. I just think it is such a strong male name!
I like the name Francis a lot. I don't love the nn Frank or Franky, but I do like Francy (not sure how to spell it). I like using your maiden name as mn.
Just to throw more into the mix........
my father is Francis Xavier and my grandfather and brother are Francis Joseph. From your list I like Francis Michael.

I picked Francis Lloyd, because Lloyd is my LO's middle name and I think it's a really strong name!
BTW, both my husband and I have lost our fathers and we chose not to use their names for the same reason you mentioned. Too fresh. Thankfully no one in our families gve us any grief about it.
