So, we've still got awhile before we start our registry, but in looking at some of my friends' registries I came up with a question. If you have 2 registries (we're thinking Amazon and BRU), do you put duplicate items on both registries? Yes, one place carries things that the other doesn't, thats why you have 2 registries, but, for example, do you put the swing or stroller you want on both registries, just in case people don't look at both? Sorry if this was confusing. TIA for your help!
Re: Registry question
Yes, I duplicated some items on mine between BRU and Amazon. I just had to make sure I kept on top of things and deleted from one when it was bought from the other.
In many cases, Amazon had better prices than BRU.
I agree with this. If you know you're going to be all over it on deleting the things from one registry that were purchased from the other, I don't see the problem.
I have a BRU and an Amazon registry. The big/expensive things are duplicated because they're almost without fail far cheaper on amazon, but the little things are pretty much just BRU.
FWIW, I suspect that no one will shop from my amazon registry but me. I'm cool with that.

[spoiler]
I only put things on my Amazon registry that are unavailable at BBB (like diaper covers, a few books, all cotton PnP sheets, etc.) because for some reason, people are really resistant to shopping on Amazon. My aunt told me she'd buy me my stroller, and I put a link to it on amazon and even emailed her the link like she asked me to, and she went and bought it at BBB, though it was out of stock there (and in stock at amazon) and though I have to wait until it comes into stock at BBB and go pick it up at the store, whereas at Amazon it would be delivered to my house for free. I don't get it, but it's a free stroller, so I can't really complain about how she chooses to give it to me!
That being said, however, almost NO ONE has bought ANYTHING from my registry. A couple of the big-ticket items have gone, but in the $10-20 range, people have chosen to buy me clothes, blankets, or books on their own rather than sheets, diaper covers, or sleepsacks from my registry. I didn't register for clothing/toys/receiving blankets because everyone warned me this is what would happen.I only put items on my registry that I absolutely NEEDED, too. I know a lot of places (not Amazon) will give you discounts for registry completion, so the plan is to go in and buy whatever is left, since I KNOW I'll need it.
There is still some time, but I estimate that if no one at my upcoming shower buys gift cards or any of the things left on my registry (smaller items, all but 5 under $20 and two of the 'overs' are under $40), then the total is about $675.
We also need to buy a carseat (it's on my registry, but I don't expect anyone to get it) at $189, the ergo carrier ($110), and the crib mattress which isn't on our registry but is $259. We haven't registered for a swing and I plan to buy that used from CL if we need one, since they are much cheaper. We also need to do some additional work on the nursery, like buy a rug and I need to factor in the price of getting the electrican in there.
So: $259 + $189 + $110 + ~$100 (rug) and ~$250 (electrician) = $808
$808 (fixed costs) + (up to) $675 (from registry) = $1483
