Babies: 3 - 6 Months

? for bfing moms re: storage amts

Hi ladies...I'm pumping to store for my Lo and the supply I'm pumping now will be tossed when he's 6 mo...if not used...anyway...how many ounces are your little ones eating at this stage? Should I save 4 oz per bag, more? Less? I don't want to waste, but I don't want to have to use 3 bags per feeding either...thanks ladies!

  • I'd freeze 5-6 oz. He may not take quite all of it but almost. Also, when he starts rice cereal will you want to use breastmilk to mix? Perhaps freeze some in ice cube trays for mixing into cereal. I didn't do that and regretted it.

  • she takes 4-5

I try to store 4-5 ounces, and then various 1 ounces (from ice cube trays) that can be added if needed.

  • My lo eats 5 oz.  when she takes a bottle, she just turned 3 months...I store 4 oz in each bag so that I know how much I have frozen without fishing through it all in our deep freeze.

  • DD takes 4 oz per bottle at daycare. I freeze 4 oz and 2 oz bags. The 2 oz come in handy if I have some extra fresh and just need a little to make a bottle.

  • Thanks so much ladies!
  • 2-4 oz is what I've done.

LO is 4 months old and just recently went from 2oz every 2 hours to 2-3oz every 2-3 hrs. Each baby is different so I don't think you'll know exactly how much LO will be eatting until the time comes :)

  • Between 4 and 5.  I still store in 2 and 3 oz mostly, but I have a few 5 oz.

  • DS is almost 6 months and only does 4-5 oz (rarely 5, usually 4). I freeze 6 oz at a time so I can use some for his food.

  • I stored everything in 5 oz. because I thought that's what he would be eating at 4 months, but he's only actually eating 4 oz. right now, however he will probably move up soon. What I'm going to do is use 2 - 5 oz. bags and 2 oz. of fresh BM so I can make 3 - 4 oz. bottles a day. I would say freeze yours in either 4 or 5 oz. I don't really see the point of making a bunch of small bags, but I know some people do it. Plus, the storage bags start getting really expensive. I have a big stash and even with freezing them in large amounts I've spent about $100 in storage bags.
