Baby Names

Keane..?

I did the magic google search and can't find any real posts on Keane ... any strong opinions either way on this one?

It shows up as a sibling suggestion on babywizard for our DS's name and on nymbler for our hypothetical girl name, so I feel like I should think it's perfect ...

  • It does seem like your taste; it fits right in with the other names you've had on your lists. I can see why you are unsure, though. It seems to be lacking something.

Sorry, I don't think so . . . if I add anything it becomes incrementally less desirable:

    Keanu.

    Keana.

    Keanea

    Keanes

    LOL . . . I think you're out of luck.

  • I have never seen it before.  It is a girl's name?  How is it pronounced...  My first guess was Key-en, then Keen, then Key-Anne.  I have no clue.
  • imagemj.reilly:

    Love their music.

I could never see the name on an actual child.

My thoughts exactly! Love the band, but not the name for a kid.

I feel you should stage a hostile takeover of our list ... we suck.

It's a boy name.  Pronounced Keen, like the shoes.

  • I immediately thought of Keene, NH. Eh, I don't like it.

  • Oh my, how did I miss your "last call" post from earlier in the week?! I wasn't even aware you'd mostly decided on Neve--yea!! Or, that you were willing to consider Willadeen--you're a girl after my own heart: ) LOL.

On a more serious note. I am working on some suggestions for you at this very moment. I promise I'll post this time. But, just a warning, I may not be as good with boys' names as I am with girls'--but maybe I'll get lucky.

we aren't actually your problem, but will appreciate any help you can give!  Neve was exactly what we were searching for!  and wasn't in a single book we were staring at ... which makes it that much better!

    That's fantastic. I love Neve; I think it's a great choice.

Here are my best boy suggestions (definitely harder to come up with boys' names):

Cole, Alec, Milo, Kale, Bryce, Wade, Jonas

    a little more unusual:

Tate, Alden, Van, Dashel, Graeme (graym), Vaughn, or Liev (Liev or Neve, very dynamic: )

    and, the most unusual:

Nash, Aldric, Orrin, Piers, Orson, Tierce, Eames, or Rafe

Let me know what you think--I can always redirect if I'm really far off-base. And don't worry, this is pretty entertaining for me; I love names.

  • I love the way it looks, but in the reality of how it sounds it seems like a1950s word...I'm keen on you; you are so swell.

That's how I first pronounced it when I saw it, and I immediately thought of the shoes. NMS, but it's not bad. I wouldn't think it was crazy or horrible if I heard a kid on the playground with that name!

hmmmm ... although nothing is jumping out at me, the fact we have at least talked about some of the names (alec, kale, tate, van, piers) makes me think you're definitely on our name planet ... I'll stare at them awhile.

True.  Maybe we should go w/Swell.  Very surfer and retro at the same time.

Well, there's always Willardean, the masculine version of Willadeen--it's catchy.

  • Niall or Neil. Theo. Lyle. Hugh. Penn? Gray. Kai. Jude.

Willardean ... genius.  I LOVE the creepy Willard dude on the Today show.  Penn is fun ... and Kai and Jude have both been on and off the list before ...

Sorry, I think I'm striking out here! In the right ballpark, I guess, but I'm not hitting on the right one. Maybe we could keep our fingers crossed you've got a baby girl in there?

Thanks for the link, I guess I had heard of Keane before.  Oh, and your link yesterday about Abel ... I tried to convince DH that he liked Archer so we could have an Archie like Amy Poehler.  And Alice like Tina Fey.  Maybe I just need to watch SNL tonight to solve this entire problem.

That would be WAY easier.  Big Smile  I have the dry erase board out to torture myself and DH ... I'll let you know if anything suddenly clicks.

I still do too ... but be warned that it's tricksy w/middle names.  It sounds enough like "King" that it weeded out MN's like Arthur, James, Edward, etc. pretty darn quick!  And I still feel like we'd be naming our child after gear, which I could see us doing ... but that doesn't make it right.  Ugh.  Can't decide.
