xp: how to switch from ebf to ff?

If you changed from ebf to ff how did you make the switch?

DS has never taken a bottle well and is not gaining weight well. A few months ago his GI had us start supplementing with some formula due to milk intolerance and my supply suffered so now daycare bottles are formula. He was just switched to EleCare and refuses the all day. I have tried pumping and bottle feeding at home but its an epic failure! I'm considering totally switching to the formula as I start back to work full time in a few weeks again and I don't want him to continue refusing bottles since he needs to eat and gain some weight. I am at a loss for how to do this! 1ht

  • Things you can try:

-Mixing pumped milk and formula.  Start with a larger amount of breastmilk and a smaller amount of formula and then slowly reverse the ratio until the breastmilk is completely phased out.

-Having someone other than you give the bottle.  You might even have to leave the room.  Or, alternately, you give him the bottle and see if he will take it from you.  Some kids are picky about who feeds them until they get used to it.

-Make sure the bottle is super warm.  Babies who are breastfed are used to really warm milk.

-Play around with different bottles or nipples.  We use Born Free brand bottles and they are great.  You might just have to try different kinds until you find the type the your DS likes the best.

Good luck!  I don't know if any of this will be helpful but it's a start.

Thanks, I should have said he got pumped milk for two months.at daycare and had the same problem...he gets it very warm and we've tried every bottle out there! He will latch easily with Dr browns but only takes a couple ounces.
