When was your baby on a napping schedule?

DD's only set schedule is at night - she's asleep by 8, 8:30 the latest and wakes up at 4 or 5 to nurse and then sleeps again until about 8 or 9 am. Naps are whenever for her...and they're typically short 30 minute naps. While in CA, my mom put her on her stomach in the living room (she was gassy) and she slept for over 2 hours which she hasn't done since she was about 8 weeks old.

So, does/did your baby have a napping scheduling too or just a bedtime schedule? Even at daycare, she takes 3-4 20-30 minute naps but no long stretches of sleep.

  • we have no set nap schedule yet either, just bedtime.

  • didn't really have one until we got her into the regular day care center, and she was 4 months old. the in-home provider let her go a little on her own, but it was random more than it was regular.

once dd got into our current dc the teachers let her adapt to what she needed. unfortunately she was the baby who always refused to nap until about a year ago. her current (fave) teacher is a genius who got dd back on a good nap schedule.

  • Dylan didn't get into a nap schedule until recently, maybe in the past month.  He would take 30 minute cat naps and now he takes 2-3 1-2 hour naps a day.  He was doing great on this schedule and putting himself to sleep and then he got a cold, so hopefully we get back into the swing of things soon.  I think at the age she is right now, she's just going to sleep whenever she gets tired and down the road, she'll fall into more of a routine.

  • Honestly I don't think he had a real schedule until he turned one and moved to the next class at daycare where they have a set nap time.  When he was in the infant room he did several cat naps during the day at random times.  He could never sleep well with all the other babies crying etc.  I think had I been home with him he probably would have had more of a schedule though.  I found on the weekends he was generally ready for his first nap within about 2 hours of waking up for the day.  Can't remember when the afternoon one was and bed has been at 7:30 since he was about 6 months old.

  • We started noticing a nap schedule around 4-5 months (3 naps).  She wakes up around 6-6:30am, then takes a 30-45 min nap around 9am, then a 2 hour nap at around 1:30pm, and then an afternoon 30 min nap around 5pm.  We put her to sleep around 7:30pm.

I also wanted to note that she doesn't STTN.  So it's not a straight 7:30 until 6am.  She wakes up about 3 or so times now and cries for a paci.  We don't feed her, and once in a blue moon we rock her back to sleep.  I would trade no nap for sleeping through the night!

  • A "schedule" started to emerge sometime in the last 2-3 months.  It's not set times, though.  It's more of a watching the clock thing.

    • 2 hours after he wakes up in the morning, he's ready for nap #1
    • 2-3 hours after he wakes up from nap #1, he's ready for nap #2
Each nap can be anywhere from 1.5-3 hours in length.  Most days he usually averages 4 hours of nap, total.  He seems to like to switch things up as to which nap will be the longer one, though.

  • Also, given that she's sleeping 12+ hours at night, I don't know that you can really expect any long naps from her, unless/until she consolidates down to 2 naps/day.

I don't expect long naps, just wanted to make sure I am not messing with her setting a schedule when I am staying home with her.

  • I'm so glad someone posted this question! Elena goes to sleep at 10:30 pm and wakes up at 8:30 but her napping schedule is non-existent. I was really worried but I figured since she wasn't fuzzy, and I can't force her to sleep there was nothing I could do about it.

At least now I know no napping schedule is perfectly  normal.
