Foam play mats do you have one

How do they work?  Do you keep this down on your floor all the time or can you pack it up and store it?  We have hardwood in our living with an area rug.  But I think I would like to keep this out only when LO is playing on the floor.

Re: Foam play mats do you have one

  • I have an alphabet one.  We love it!  Since it is so big, I am just using half and actually put it on my carpet in the family room.

  • We have one.  We keep it out all the time, except when the housekeeper comes every other Monday.  We pick it up then so she can sweep and mop.  It's way too much trouble to take apart and put away everyday. Also, Leighton plays on it a lot, so it doesn't bother us to have it down all the time

So if you keep it out, do you guys walk on it?

We generally walk around it...if we do walk on it, we take off our shoes and walk on it barefoot or with our socks on

  • I like those ones so much better than mine!

I just have a 4 pack from walmart, red, blue, yellow, and green. I'm in the same boat as you. I have hardwoods with an area rug. But my dog and baby were always fighting for the little bit of carpet there is, so we got them for DS and just leave them out. He has his own little play area in our living room, and the dog can have the carpet!

  • LOL - sorry for not answering your questions.  No, we do not walk on it - it is in her toy area and we make a point never to walk on it.  They are a pain to clean - once I put them all in the bathtub with dish soap, but that took forever.  Now I wipe them off with her wipes once a week.
  • We walk on ours, the dog walks on it. I'm not overly concerned. They were $10 for the four. They foam, they bounce back.
  • We have this one https://amzn.com/B000X9E4RI

We have all hardwood floors.  The mat just stays in one place all the time. Its out of the way so we dont really walk on it.  This one is a breeze to clean.  Stuff easily wipes off.  Good material, thick foam and pieces dont come apart easily when you move it.

  • We have the Skip Hop one and I love it.  We moved into our house last summer and still are not using our living room for anything (we're going to eventually remodel that and the kitchen area).  Anyway, the living room has become Zach's playroom.  It has some nasty old carpet in it and I didn't want him rolling all around mouthing the dirty carpet.

I take my shoes off when on it and it's really easy to clean.  Zach spits up a lot still so I just wipe it down and I disinfect it with Clorox wipes at least once a week.  I do take it up once a month when the housekeeper comes.  It's a pain to have to take it all apart and put it back together.  I wouldn't want to do it every day.

The only negatives are that my dog walks on it and her nails sometimes leave some marks on it.  They don't ruin it but it's no longer "perfect".

Also, my 3 year old nephew had a great time taking it apart and I'm sure as soon as Zach discovers that he can take it apart he'll do it all the time too!

  • Those are really cute! We have foam mats that look like hardwood and have put them basically over all of the hardwood in our family room (so around the perimeter of the area rug and then towards our kitchen) and we leave it down all the time, which is the glory of it really looking like the wood floors. We got it from One Step Ahead online, and actually have like 3 24 packs down so DS can crawl around and we don't have to worry when he bonks his head (which is less and less often, but still happens when he is trying to pull up on toys, etc.). I'm sure if we were having a dinner party or something I would pull it up, but since that's not happening any time soon it stays where it is.

  • We have one and we just take it apart and put it in the toy chest when we aren't using it. It's easy to put together and DD likes to play with the different pieces while I am putting in down for her.

  • I have the Skip Hop one and I would not recommend it if you are going to want to take it out only when in use and then put away each night.  It is a total pain to take apart and put together.  I bought another one from One Step Ahead (alphabet one) to use in the living room where we do put it away each night and I will put the Skip Hop one in his room since it matches nicely and will stay assembled.  :-)
