Moving up in diaper size

What made you move up to the next size?

Even though DS was a chunky 9 pounds at birth, now probably 10 pounds - he has no butt. We have to put them as tight as they can go, just so he doesn't leak. We are still in newborns.

He has never leaked out. That's usually when you go up a size right, when the diaper doesn't fit right to contain everything..

But now he's getting red marks on his legs from the leg holes, so they are obviously too small.

We use pampers swaddlers. Is there another brand anyone has found that has larger leg holes? I've heard Huggies is better for that, but they also have more 'butt' room, which would not work well for us..

So should we move up to size 1, and risk more leaks and blow outs, or stick to newborn for a bit, even though he must be uncomfortable..

Re: Moving up in diaper size

  • The top of the diaper kept creeping further and further below his belly button and we had more blow outs (not enough space for all the poop). Try buying one size up and see how it goes. If they are too big you can use them later.

  • NB were getting too small on DS so I went up to size 1.  I was skeptical because they look SO big on him, but we haven't had a single leak.

  • Huggies do sag a little on DD, but I don't have any leaks.  They work very well around her chunky legs.  LOL  We use the Huggies Snugglers.  I haven't tried the Snug and Dry.

  • We use pampers baby dry. My DS is long and skinny and they work well for us.
  • Our DS was born at 9 pounds too and they put him in size 1 from the beginning.

This. We moved her up to size 1 a couple weeks ago maybe because the NB were making marks on her little chubby thighs.  I thought the 1s were way too big at first, but they haven't leaked at all so I am not worried.

  • We moved up when he started getting red marks on his legs. He's in size 2 of the Pampers New Baby, and they look big, but we've only had him leak out once, and it was my fault because I didn't put it on tight enough.
