I am definitely motivated to FINALLY get to the shape/fitness level that is healthiest for my body...not only for myself, but for my family. I want my daughter to have a healthy mom and be a role model for her.
Re: Better Body after Babies
I'm with you, Lori. This is my biggest motivator:
Both Ben and I have struggled with our weight, and I really want the boys to grow up to have a healthy relationship with food. I know this will take work, since when I grew up we always had food as rewards (for example: "You and your sister got straight A's! Let's go out for ice cream to celebrate!"), and this will definitely be a pitfall for me since it's something I tend to do now. Ben had a bad day? I make him his favorite cookies. Something great happened at work? Let's make a big dinner with a decadent dessert to celebrate! I need to find something other than food to substitute on these occasions...
such a good point & I am definitely guilty of this too. I always want to pick up cupcakes or something to surprise DH or celebrate...but I don't know what to do otherwise. I think a bouquet of flowers would be lost on him!

good luck!
I should really use that as motivation, but sadly, I'm just not there yet. Maybe after looking into this, I will finally get my act together.
I have the same problem! I just don't know what else to do (that's relatively cheap lol). I could do something like give him a massage, but that's hard to do with the babies - even when I cook something special, I usually have to step away from it a few times to deal with them.
those women look fantastic!
MH struggles with his weight more than I do, but still, I worry about our general lifestyle choices. I would like to be in better physical shape (consistently, not just like I was last summer!), and we are not nearly as regularly active as I want us to be. We are pretty sporadic with our exercise - either a ton, or not at all. I really want to build activity into our daily (or weekly) routine. We try to take walks, but even those aren't very regular.
Once LO is here, I would like, for example, to take family bike rides, or go on hikes on the weekend
I could see us doing this maybe once a month - but i'd like it to be a more regular occurrence. Maybe a weekly family activity (with the focus on the "active" part of activity). I'm going to try to make it happen, but given how hard it is for just the two of us to get off our butts, I'm skeptical
But i really do want to instill that regular activity is "normal" and necessary for our kids, so they hopefully keep it up when they older. I was really active as a kid, but that all stopped when I wet to college and wasn't participating in organized sports anymore. I want my kids to stay active and fit throughout their lives, and I think it's important to begin young.
I'm like you, pretty sporadic with exercise - it's either a ton or nothing. I like the idea of doing something like a regular family bike ride!
I hear you on celebrating with food...we do it too...big time! I've tried to make better choices though...so if we go for ice cream, let's say, I get a small frozen yogurt in a cup rather than two scoops on a cone. And we usually split desserts if we order them.
We don't eat out much, which has helped our budget AND waistlines a lot and we don't keep many treats or junk food at home (we have things like graham crackers, tortilla chips, raw almonds and that's about it for "splurge" foods). J loves wine, so if I want to "reward" a job good done sometimes I pick up a bottle that he's been wanting to try...more often than not it ends up in our cabinet for the next celebration...
Since I had GD we started incorporating daily walks into our evenings and once Libby was about 3 months old, we started them up again. It's a great way for us to get out as a family, get the blood pumping AND reconnect at the end of the day. We usually just go around the neighborhood (there's a park nearby) and it takes about 30 minutes. I also eat 5-6 smaller meals a day (or 3 meals and 2-3 snacks) which worked for GD and I believe has helped me drop 45 lbs. since Libby was born. And breastfeeding...I know it's helped me lose this weight.
My goal is to drop at least 60 more before we TTC#2 in late 2011...so I have to step up the exercise if I want to do that! We have a treadmill, so I have no excuse other than the fact that I am tired at the end of a work day and have Libby to take care of...but I know my mom would play with her for 30-45 minutes so I could get a walk in on the treadmill. Or I could get up a little earlier and try to do it then.

Those women are really inspiring.
I've been training for my first 1/2 marathon (in October). It's definately harder to run with a stroller (seriously harder), but I'm so excited to cross that finish line and have my husband and daughter cheering for me.
Like you guys we want our kids to have a healthy relationship with food. I want her to be raised on healthy, wholesome food but I also want her to eat a treats guilt free. I've eliminated the phrase "I feel so fat" from my vacabulary. She's going to get that message from everywhere else she doesn't need it from home.
