Partying in the crib until all hours

Would you consider not going to sleep as easily as say a few weeks ago a sign that the end of the crib day are near? Colin has ALWAYS been awesome about falling asleep. I joke that I dump him and run and that is almost literally what happens and then he would be asleep in 10 minutes max. The past few weeks (going on 4 now) he has been playing in his crib until 10:30/11. We had been going in to make sure he didn't poop but that hasn't been the case. He just doesn't fall asleep. He has a few things in his crib, frog, pillow pet, stuffed sheep and since his b-day he takes his toy story flash light and the hungry caterpillar book. So we hear him talking about parties and cake and naming his friends, 'reading' his book, etc..He just goes on and on and on. Don't get me wrong it's hilarious but I feel like he is going through some strange transition. He has not tried to climb out of his crib yet but he does hang on the railing like he is going to swing his leg over but just hasn't. The recent 'insomnia' makes me dread putting him in a big boy bed, but I am wondering if that's what he needs now? Any advice would be very much appreciated. I am so worried that moving him to a bed is going to make bedtime SO much worse.

Re: Partying in the crib until all hours

  • Finn went through this for a few weeks and then just went back to sleeping normally in his crib. I wouldn't take it as a sign of that, but I am dreading the move to a big guy bed so I probably wouldn't see anything as a sign :)

  • Benjamin would do that every few weeks as he got older but then he went back to his same old great sleeping self.  It wasn't until he was climbing in and out of his crib on a daily basis that we had to switch him over.  He still does it with his big boy bed but I'm chalking it up to lots of developmental changes - i.e. speech, etc.

Gavin also went through this and I chalked it up to developmental phase.  It finally passed after a while.  I wouldn't move him out of the crib just for this- if he's not climbing out, I'd wait as long as possible.

ditto the developmental phase and waiting on moving him.  They are learning and changing so much at this age, sometimes it just takes them longer to process it and decompress at night.  We just moved Colin to the big boy bed and he'll be 3 next month.  It was a breeze.  No crying, he doesn't get up/out of bed and he's only fallen out once.  I'm SO glad we waited so long!

  • Thanks ladies! My plan is to keep him in the crib as long as I can. I was just making sure I wasn't missing any 'signs' that his bed was not comfortable for him anymore.
