If you bring lunch to work

what are you making?  The 1st few weeks I was eating chicken caesar salad but got really sick of it. Last week I made pasta salad, but towards the end of the week, it was becoming difficult to finish.  I have no idea what to bring this week.  I don't want either of those things.  What do you eat?

Re: If you bring lunch to work

  • I teach, so I'm home for the summer, but I've been living off PB&J lately.  I feel worse from 7am through about 4pm, so it's all I can really stomach in the middle of the day.

  • I've been making chicken salad sandwiches on pitas, or good old pb&j when I have the energy to actually pack my lunch the night before!

  • Even though it's kinda hot out, I've been eating soups. I also bring frozen meals some days. I also try not to eat the same thing everyday!

    Good luck

  • Easy mac, a bunch of veggies like celery carrots, tomatoes, broccoli and cauliflower; and cantaloupe and honey dew melon.

Trying to eat better since before I was just getting fast food..Good luck finding something your tummy can handle :)

  • Hot pockets or lean pockets have been good for me.  I take those with some yogurt and some sort of fruit.  I also try to have snacks with me all day--dry cereal, crackers, granola bars, etc.  Eating several times throughout the days helps me.

PB&J sounds good.  I may have to try that this week.  :)

  • Risotto rice with zucchini and squash mixed in. Between the carbs in the rice, the basic chicken flavor added by the chicken broth, and the veggies, I like it and my stomach can handle it. I need to add more protein in though but haven't found a good way to do it.

Some days I take frozen meals- like Amy's- but those are meatless too.

  • I've been bringing a variety of small items to eat throughout the day and for lunch. Hummus and pita chips, string cheese and crackers, trail mix, yogart and granola, fruit!, applesauce, dry cereal. I've also like having soups, tortilla and baked potato soup....this post is making me hungry!

  • It's summer for me too, but pre-planning starts this week so I need to buy stuff to take to work. Well, we have PTO luncheon Wednesday (we have an AWESOME PTO that makes a HUGE and DELICIOUS brunch for us during pre-planning and post-planning. And, we usually end up eating out for lunch with our department or grade level during pre-planning.

But... I usually get frozen dinners. I take 5-6 to work at a time with the intentions of having them last all week. However, sometimes I get nauseated (I did even before I was pregnant, especially when I was passing a kidney stone) and heat something up, take a bite, throw/give it away, and heat up a different meal.

My desk at school is like a grocery store. On a regular basis I have soups, tuna kits (can't have those now because my OB said they have the highest mercury content of any sea food), cheeze-its, goldfish, granola bars, peanut butter and crackers, pop tarts, chocolate, cashews, fruits, and on and on.

Last year when my schedule switched to extended day (I have a 30 minute lunch break at 10:30 which usually is consumed with a parent conference, then I'm locked in my room until 3:20), I bought a small fridge/freezer/microwave to keep in my room. I'm small with a fast metabolism, so I eat all of the time. I had yogurt, cheeses, and other more healthy snacks, but the "energy efficiency" police in our school district made us get rid of everything that plugged in (even pencil sharpeners!) because they were trying to save the district money.

Now, I just get the kids started on something and walk down the hall to the lounge if I'm hungry. When I need to eat, I eat. Big Smile

    Sorry for the novel...

  • When I cook for dinner during the week (I love the Cooking Light cookbooks and magazine) I will sometimes double the recipe so DH and I can have the leftovers for lunch.  So this week for lunch we are having Chicken noodle salad and chicken and guacamole tostadas for our lunches.

  • I made a great salad last week...bulgar wheat with pulled rotisserie chicken, grape tomatoes, chopped artichoke hearts, parsley and lemon.  It was sort of like tabbouleh (spelling?) but better.  I made a big batch of it and took it to the class I was taking 2 or 3 times.  I have also made chicken salad with halved red grapes and chopped walnuts.  I use an already cooked rotisserie chicken from the grocery store so I dont have to cook the chicken.  Good luck!

  • I've been having issues w/ lunches lately. Used to assemble salads on Sunday and dress them each day I ate them- but two of the main ingredients are not working for me now- chicken and veggies. Last week I got a few bland (meat-free b/c frozen meat meals make me gag on a normal day!) lean cuisines - like cheese ravioli or fetuccini alfredo. Not too filling but not offensive either. I'm not into making a big effort around lunch right now.

Always have snacks at work- pb and apple, crackers, cheese to slice up, etc. I sort of supplement my lunch during the after noon as my tummy is up for it.

    Um, triscuits with alouette?

What I'm able to eat is becoming more and more limited. Leftover mac-n-cheese is okay, or plain pasta with butter. I've been eating a lot of plain white bread. Sometimes I can handle peanut butter, sometimes not.

Soups are sometimes ok. I have a bowl I keep at work and just bring a can, or buy cup-o-noodles.

  • I am bringing chicken salad sandwiches almost everyday.  I also stocked up at the fruit stand so trying to have an apple or grapes with it.  Not sure how much longer I can keep eating the same thing : )
