Making baby food: Avocado ?

ok, so I went on wholesomebabyfood.com  and it said avocado's don't need to be heated or pureed or anything like that.  So I cut it in half, and scooped all the good stuff out.  Mashed that up, and put it in cubes to freeze.

I gave DD her first tastes of the fresh avocado and she threw it up everywhere!  Including her bottle that she had one hour prior.  Were not talking spit up here, full on throw up.

so I'm wondering if I wasn't supposed to feed it to her fresh like that- what do you think?  How did your DC react to avocado?

also, I read that it can brown when thawed, I assume that it is still ok to eat, right??

thanks!

  • Poor thing.  You did right...you don't have to cook it.  it's ok to eat brown too.

If she keep on hating it, make some quacamole!  FWIW, DD won't eat avocado alone but will eat in one a grilled cheese sandwich or in guacamole.

  • Yup, you did it right, thats exactly how I do it! ?My DD LOVES it, but I've heard of many babies that dont. ?Give it a week or two and try again?
  • I'm curious about this one too. My DS has thrown up excessively in the past two days since giving him avocado. I just scooped it out of the skin and pureed it with a bit of formula to thin it. Several hours later, he's still throwing up green. Weird.
