DD watches some kid's tv programs but she never really sits in front of the tv to watch a full episode. I just have it on in the background at times. She is too busy to watch television :-)
But probably around 18 months he started liking elmo and some of the stuff on nick jr.
He's definetly not watching spongebob and all that stuff.
I only allow nick jr. NOT that it really matters, but I watch stuff with him and we point out animals and try to name them, and I at least make it interactive. He loves baby einstein too

DS will watch Mikey Mouse and Baby Einstein DVDs. One 30 minute program is fine in my eyes, but what do I know.

We don't turn the tv on specifically for DS, but DD usually watches about 30 minutes of TV after dinner. Sometimes DS will sit down for a few minutes and watch it, but usually he toddles around or plays with us. So no, we don't stress about him watching a little tv, but also don't encourage it.
DS has zero interest in TV, but if he did, I would use it when I needed to, and without shame. We bought signing DVDs for him, thinking that he'd watch them if we needed to make lunch or whatever, but he's just not interested.
Our DS plays in our living room while we watch tv in the evenings (news) and doesn't even realize that it is turned on. We turn cartoons on Saturday morning and he will sit and watch for a few minutes and then he is off to play with something besides the tv. (mostly yo gabba gabba or back yardigans) He really watches if there is something musical on the tv and then he dances and looks back to see if Mommy and Daddy are watching him danc.e
No, I didn't. We started letting him watch the Wiggles in small doses. Then when he got sick for a month, the ONLY thing that made him happy was the Wiggles.
Since he's gotten better, we've backed down on it again to where he gets a couple episodes a day - primarily before bed/nap time - and that's it.
And 1/2 the time, he's up and moving around the room not even paying attention to the TV.
"Beer is living proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy." ~Benjamin Franklin
We don't put kid programs on for him. He does get exposed to our tv watching in the evening and has recently started paying attention. I figure we made it pretty far, so I'm happy with it. I'm sure baby #2 will be watching a lot more tv by default.
We "wake up" with Curious George and he begins to lose interest in the middle of Sid the Science Kid. That's the extent of it for us. The tv's always on, though, and he'll catch of glipse of something he likes here and there...but it only lasts for a minute or two before he's playing with his toys. I should add that we only started this tv thing when he was about 15 months old. HTH!
DD watches some kid's tv programs but she never really sits in front of the tv to watch a full episode. I just have it on in the background at times. She is too busy to watch television :-)
Same in our house...DD will pause for a minute or two to watch Dora or Super WHY!, but she's way too interested in her books and toys and tromping around the house to sit and watch the TV.
Ds loves yo gabba gabba, he doesn't have much interest in other shows, the tv is usaully on nick jr most of the time during the day, sometimes he watches it sometimes he ignores it and plays with his toys. I'm not concerned about him watching tv.
It's on, but she usually has no interest in it what so ever. If we put on an Einstein DVD for her, she watches for maybe a minute and then gets back to playing.
We have never turned on a show just for him but he has been exposed to TV because we watch it. He's never paid much attention to it. Every now and then he'll look like he cares about it and then a few seconds pass and he's on to something else. I would love for him to not show any interest for while longer. I love that he would rather play with blocks than sit in front of the boob tube. If I was a SAHM, I'm sure he would be watching tv by now. I can't imagine entertaining him all day long. I probably would need to have it on every now and then for a break.
we have always had the TV on in the background and DD has never shown any interest other than certain commercials and opening/closing music for some TV shows - she's far too busy and has never actually sat down to watch anything.
Kiddo doesn't watch TV. It is occasionally on when he's in the room if DH is watching sports or if the news is on. He's plenty happy without it so I have no plans to start turning it on for him anytime soon ;-)
Just since I haven't seen any replies that reflect our situation, I'll say it: DD watches no television and won't until she's at least 2. No Dora, no Nick Jr., the TV is not on during the day at all. We watch after she goes to bed.
We joke that when we eventually do let her watch, she's going to actually believe TV is interactive because the only screen time she really gets is Skype with the grandparents. So when Dora tells her to jump up and down or something, we think she's really going to believe it!
If I was pg or really needed the rest for some reason, I'm sure we would introduce TV, we just haven't felt it necessary yet and I'm glad we've held out this long. I'm also sure that #2 will get TV a lot sooner than DD.
Nope. DD doesn't sit and watch full shows (too busy) but we do have it on the background a lot of the time. we only watch shows on Playhouse Disney or PBS. DS sometimes watches a few others but not too many. Its been helpful if i need to get stuff done and both kids have actually learned a lot from the Playhouse Disney shows like Mickey, Oso, etc.
We never put it on especially for him. I tried once when he was having a melt-down and I needed to be in the kitchen - I put on Sesame St. - and he found the remote and changed the channel. Flipped until he got to the History Channel, then started playing with some toys with a show about airplanes on in the background. He's just not into kid shows.
We do face his chair toward the TV if we're eating in the living room because if he hears the teli he tries to turn around to watch it. If he's facing it he pretty much ignores it. When he's not confined to a chair, he ignores it completely and plays with toys or reads stories with us.
My niece on the other hand - who is six months older than B - has been into TV since ... well, as far as I can remember. Obsessed with YGG, and likes pretty much every other Sprout/Nick Jr. show that I can think of.

We follow it. DH and I don't watch a lot of TV to begin with, though, so it's not like we had to stop having it on in the background or anything. Sometimes he and I watch something after she's in bed.
DD hasn't really been exposed to TV much yet at all. We are far more inclinded to have music playing around our house. DH and I love tv, but it comes on after DD goes to bed. She's also in a daycare that doesn't have TVs.
dd is 20 months and watches no TV. She's just not interested and I'm certainly not going to encourage it. I have no doubt that she will become hooked on TV in the future, but I see no reason to start now.

Kate was not exposed to any tv at all, not even in the background, until she was 23 months old (when Ben was born). Then she started watching on 30 min show a day, usually when I was putting Ben to bed and needed her safe and occupied. She's 3 years old now, and watches no more than 45 minutes a day and not every day.
Ben doesn't watch TV. The only times Kate is allowed to watch is during his nap and after he's asleep.
DS doesn't really watch tv, but I'll put it on occasionally if I'm feeling sick or he's super whiny and I need a break. I'm sure he'll watch a lot when I'm pregnant, though.
DD watches some kid's tv programs but she never really sits in front of the tv to watch a full episode. I just have it on in the background at times. She is too busy to watch television :-)
This...DD will stop to "sing" the Happy Birthday song on Sprout and always stops to see Elmo...other than that, she is out and about! I have to have the TV on, I can't stand it being too quiet! I figure, better something fun for her than TV talk shows for me, in which I'd plop in front and never move!!!
nope - DS likes Sesame Street so he watches that most weekday mornings. I'd say he watches maybe an hour a day at the most and he's usually back and forth doing other things also.
Nope- DD watches maybe 15 mns of Dinosaur Train in the morning while she eats Cheerios. But she's generally not inerested in tv. I know they have it on at Day care for the older kids (probably on a daily basis) and it's on at home when it's the two of us but she would rather play with her toys than watch.
Ds loves yo gabba gabba, he doesn't have much interest in other shows, the tv is usaully on nick jr most of the time during the day, sometimes he watches it sometimes he ignores it and plays with his toys. I'm not concerned about him watching tv.
We are a TV house, so it is always on in the background. We turn on "Handy Manny" when LO is eating breakfast and he loves it. He has a playroom and we have a Baby Einstein playing in the background whenever we are in there, but for the most part he plays with his toys and looks at his books. He only really watches when there are songs on, and even then it is just for a few min before he is back to playing. I don't worry about TV and him.
they get one dvd (baby einstein or baby signing time) before afternoon nap. otherwise it's cable music on tv, which i don't count as tv since it's not moving pics. i'm ok with these.
when dh is home (MWF i work pt,and he gets home first) he sometimes has real TV on when i get there. also on the weekends he'll put real TV on. dh and i are typical tv watching people. it's so hard, but i do want to limit what they see.
DD doesn't watch tv. Not so much because we're following a rule as we don't watch much tv ourselves. It's
not on during the day and DH and I will
watch maybe a show or two in the evenings on Netflix or Hulu or something.
When I was in my first trimester with this pregnancy, I started turning on the TV for a half an hour or so for DS, usually in the mornings. The funny thing is that he LOVES it. Like, will sit on the couch and watch an entire episode. I've never seen him sit so still before. So obviously he has the potential to be a TV addict, ha ha. Now that I'm feeling better, we've gone back to no TV, but I'm not opposed to him watching a show here or there. He has no interest in "adult programming", and the only TV that he would hear now would be the evening news.

This is us almost exactly. In fact, when DD1 watches Dora and she says to dance or say something louder, DD does what she says. But, when Dora asks questions for the puzzle at the end, she gets so excited to get the right answers so it's somewhat beneficial.
Re: Do you follow the no TV until 2 rule?
nope. He didn't watch much early on.
