Giant Cupcake Pan

Does anyone have this?  I'm trying to decide if I should buy this for the smash cake.  I can't imagine I would ever use it again - or would you?  Is a giant cup cake cut-able and edible?  I guess it is?  And if you used it for the smash cake - was it too big??  Thanks!

Re: Giant Cupcake Pan

  • I took pictures for a friend that used it as a smash cake.  It was super cute and fun.  I am going to borrow it to take Kates pictures.  She has actually used it several times since her DD's first birthday.

  • I made one for DD's party. I used the Wilton pan and it was awesome. I decided to take it easy on the frosting and didn't go crazy with decorating it. As you can see, I am not a pro and it totally looks homemade..haha.

  • My friend used one for her DD's first bday. It was a great smash cake. It was a little bit big, but not so big that it looked weird. I am actually going to do the same thing for my DD's first.
  • I have the pan, and could actually see using it again. I made a practice cupcake and yes DH and I were able to cut slices off it. Also, its $35 at Michaels, but I signed up for their email distribution and got a 50% off one item coupon, making it cheaper there than anywhere else I have found.
  • I am planning to do it for DS's smash cake. My SIL got the pan and used it for my niece's brithday party, they did cut it since it was the main cake and it was fine. Plus now I get to use it Smile so that might be a way to get more uses out of it if you have family that wants to borrow it.

  • SOLD!!  And now that at I can get it at Michael's for 40% or 50% off - I'll go there.  Was going to order it from Amazon for $25 but that sounds good.

Final Question - is the whole thing one box of batter?

  • I should add that I have already made 4 cakes for other b-days. They were my practice cakes.

you can use one box, but I did 2 different types of cake. The thing is that you don't want to fill each cup all the way to the top.

this review on amazon helped me out.

    1. I didn't like that everyone else was approximating their numbers, so here are mine exactly:
    - 325 degrees, the entire bake time
    - When spraying the container, I made the mistake of spraying the whole thing BEFORE the top went in. Remember to only spray the bottom, then after baking it (see next bullet) spray the TOP.
    - 12 minutes just the bottom piece
    - I then added the top. 67 minutes = enough time to get the soft inside and not too hard outside.
    2. I used 2 cake boxes, and took note of which is denser (I had devil's food and funfetti, so I used the devil's food for the base). When finished, I had enough for 12 cupcakes in addition to the large cupcake.
    3. I filled the batter up to the last portion of the spiral for the top, and about 1 inch in for the bottom.
