Hair and scalp changes?

So I've always had oily hair - like, it looks great after I wash it but then about 12-15 hours later, it starts to get a bit oily and I might have to pull it up...then after I've slept on it? Forget it.  I have never been able to have presentable 2nd-day hair. Unless I'm just lounging at home and don't care how gross I look, I must wash my hair every day.  It makes weekend trips annoying because I never look cute the next morning like other women.

But for the past couple weeks, my hair has been spectacular! Yay 2nd trimester!  I wake up and it still looks great -  nice and dry, not a bit of oil.  I'm loving it!  But guess what I noticed today... dandruff! Ugh!  I was wearing a black dress and had little flecks on my shoulders - went to the mirror and saw my scalp is definitely dry.  From one extreme to the other, I guess.

Anyone else notice this? I guess I'll just throw some Head & Shoulders into my shampoo rotation?  Meh. lol.

Re: Hair and scalp changes?

  • I'm sorta experiencing the same thing but in a very negative way.  I only wash my hair every 2nd or 3rd day and it doesn't get too oily.. but for the last month especially I feel like my hair is extra frizzy, extra stringy, and feels like straw (it's usually soo soft!!)   I'm not super happy about it, and yes.. I've noticed more dandruff :(  WAH!  the thing is I can't tell if it's the pregnancy hormones or whatever, or the weather because it has been super crazy hot and humid where I live.  I hope it's just the weather!

  • Mine is completely opposite. I usually have dandruff and need Head & Shoulders regularly but since BFP, it's gone. I have great 'second day hair'. It has never been as soft and shiny. Loving it!

I went from being able to wash my hair every other day to getting pregnant an borderline needing to wash it every day from the extra oil. Now its somewhat back to normal but still a little bit more oily than normal. Something I never knew I'd have to deal with being pregnant lol

  • My scalp was extremely dry a few weeks ago.  I changed to head and shoulders dry scalp and I also switched my DHA supplements.  I was using a prenatal with the DHA combined.  I know take a separate DHA and the combo seemed to help.

  • ugh is all I have to say. Not only is my scalp EXTREMELY dry and flakey, I still have to wash my hair daily because it gets so oily. I'm hoping that that wonderful pregnancy "glow will hit me eventually but I'm not counting on it.
  • Interesting that most people are having the opposite problem as me! But it always seemed like my oily hair was the minority before getting preg (everyone I know can do the day-without-washing thing except me).

I'm definitely going to see if it's my prenatal+DHA - I take the combo, too. Thanks for the suggestion!!

  • I use to have to wash my hair every other day because it was oily. I have very thick hair so I had no need to wash it every day. Now though I have to hold off on washing it for 3-4 days because it has become so dry. Its crazy because I am use to my hair only lasting a few days tops before it needs a wash but I asked my friends if (after 3 days of not washing it) my hair looked like it needed to be washed and they said no. In a way its nice because my hair is very long and thick so its nice to just hop in the shower and not worry about it as much
