flying when pregnant

So DH and I would like to start trying for #2 soon.  I am curious as to what your OB told you in regards to flying when you are pregnant.  How far along is it still ok to fly when pregnant?  Would you fly when you are 30 weeks pregnant?  The reason I am asking is because we have a trip planned in Feb to Disney and "if" I was to get pregnant right away again as we did with DD#1 I would be close to 30 weeks when we go.  I know it might not happen right away  this time...but I am  just trying to play the what if sceniero....what are your thoughts ladies.

Re: flying when pregnant

  • I flew at 28ish weeks when pregnant with ds.  You can usually fly up to about 36 wks if there are not any issues.  My only concern would be to have the trip/flights be refundable if you needed to cancel. You never know what could happen in the pregnancy that would make you not able to go.

  • I also flew around 28 weeks and it was fine. Unless you have issues, I don't see why 30 weeks would be a problem, although like pp mentioned, you never know and might want trip insurance JIC.

  • My doc said definitly not after at 34 weeks for me, but everyone is different depending on their pregnancy and health risks, etc.
  • I flew throughout both pregnancies.  Airlines will let you fly until 36 weeks generally but I would stop by 32 at the latest for reasons of comfort.
  • DH and I went to Mexico when I was 27 weeks with DS1.

  • I flew at 30/31 weeks with my 2nd pregnancy. Flying wasn't an issue, although I always get airsick when I fly while pregnant. I personally would never want to do Disney while 30 weeks pregnant though. I would be way too tired/sore to handle all the walking at Disney. Not to mention, you won't be able to go on half of the rides.

  • I flew at 32 weeks. I think airlines don't let you fly past 34 weeks, but I'm not positive. I got really airsick when we were sitting in the back of the plan. There was a lot of turbulence, and it was a horrible landing. As soon as we landed I had to rush to the bathroom to throw up. It was not fun! On my flight home we were in the front of the plane and it was nearly as bad.
  • Thanks girls for your input.  We go to Disney every year and I have never been too much of a ride person to begin with so that part won't be too bad.  We are also going with DHs family so we will have plenty of  help with our DD.

  • I flew at 8 weeks (Australia) and 28 weeks (Boston) with my OB's blessing. She just said don't go to Mexico, and be done flying by 30 weeks.
